Oil Separator

Btw hello all, new to site.

Now for the question. I just purchased an inline oil separator to install on my 2006 Mustang GT. Question is on the car I have a Paxton Novi 1200 with the Paxton supplied PCV. Should I remove the PCV or install the separator after/before? Thanks to all who answer.

I am sorry I tried your HERE HERE HERE HERE but none of those answered the simple question of should I install it before/after the PCV valve supplied by the Paxton kit. You know what I don't really understand is when people chime in on a post to say some snide comment about a members question instead of just answering the question or remaining silent. If you think its a stupid or previously answered quest just leave it alone and fade off into the sunset instead of commenting and keeping it at the top of the page. I did a search and did not get an answer.

It probably doesn't really matter. Install it where it makes sense...where there's room, etc. As long as the aerated oil is removed, then the objective is acheived. But if you have a blown application, I would consider a Moroso or Steff's air/oil separator, with hose fittings from Earl's fittings. Otherwise you'll have to drain the inline one VERY often. I'm NA, and I drain mine every 1500 miles, but again, I'm NA.

I've tried mine with and without, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. It separates a lot of oil.

If it's just an inline pcv valve, you should be able to put it on either side of it. I would probably put it before the valve, to keep the valve clean too.

Ok thanks again. I was just thinking that I have seen so many people's fill up so quickly that putting it after the PCV valve would reduce some of this. Just wanted advice to know pros and cons.

No problem, yes, putting it after would mean less emptying of the canister. Not sure if anyone has made one yet that has a hose on the bottom to drain back to the motor. Would be nice if there was one that automatically drained back to the engine. I haven't done this yet to my car, so I haven't looked at many of the threads.

No problem, yes, putting it after would mean less emptying of the canister. Not sure if anyone has made one yet that has a hose on the bottom to drain back to the motor. Would be nice if there was one that automatically drained back to the engine. I haven't done this yet to my car, so I haven't looked at many of the threads.

I was going to drill and tap my oil cap and put a fitting on it then run a line from my Stef's drain to it . The only problem I see is my Stef's sits way lower than the oil cap and it might not enough pressure to push the oil through the line causing a backup in the can ?

My thoughts were not so much of having to empty it less than the oil going in the container is coming out of my oil pan. Also here is another thought. Once you guys empty the container do you dispose of it or put it back into the engine? Here is some interesting reading for n/a and f/i applications. There is nothing wrong with using unmetered air............just as long as your tuned for it.

I am n/a, use an intake filter on the passenger side. On the drivers side, in this order, from the pvc to the stefs 5122 then to the intake. The stuff that ends up in the stefs can is discarded as it contains a lot of contaminates that you would never want to dump back into the engine oil.

Dude, don't worry about asking questions...that one of the intents of a forum like this, and for every grumpy there someone willing to answer....when we eventually get back to the forum!

I NEVER put that stuff back into the oil because:

1. it doesn't constitute a huge loos to your oil level;
2. since it was in aerated form before it got condensed back to liquid, it also contains un burned hydrocarbons (gas) and carbon from combustion, both that come into your crankcase as blow-by

So I just collect it in an empty oil bottle and duispose of it properly by taking it to one of the oil change shops.

I have think skin and after reading one of the posts that bigray327 linked me to I know why he was dreading another post covering the same topic. Gezz who would have thought a topic about oil separators would turn into such a debated issue but what can I say the Mustang crowd is a Passionate bunch. Anyway glad to be here and thanks for everything.
