I was trying to send a private message to a user who had created n old post but finding it difficult. Is it posssible to do that?

it's possible, however, PMs do not get activated until a certain post count is reached, it's an anti-scammer tactic.

Very good point. You must show activity on the site through the forums before PMs are activated and Sales are accessible.
