i'm getting close to purchasing a whipple h.o. kit for my bullitt. what do you guys think and why?
frpp 550 hp kit with ford tune
vs.
whipple 500 hp kit with steeda adaptive tuning
???????
i really like the idea of the steeda tuning and with a lack of any decent tuners around here, i'm not sure what i would do if the ford racing tune wasn't right. the car is not a daily driver, gets 4-5k miles a year. i want the best driveability and reliability, and hopefully mid 400's to the wheels. are there any other whipple kits i should be looking at? thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Call Adam at ST Motorsports. He hooked me up (Whipple factory is in Fresno, CA) and then dynotuned my car there.

Mister Roper i've seen you out at sac raceway a few times. have you had any issues with your whipple or the tune? i will definitely call up st motorsports. i just wish they were closer.

I'd go with the Whipple tune over the Steeda one. I've had the Whipple tune for about 15000 miles and haven't had a problem with the tune. IMO the Steeda adaptive tune is too new and unproven.

You won't be a custom tune period. FRPP is a good start, but spend the money and get it tuned on the dyno by a GOOD tuner.:thumb:

I've got the 550 kit and I still can't believe how much power there is. Need a new clutch, but that is a different thread.

I talked to Whipple for a while about this and they convinced me their tune was good to go. They have a 2005 that they have the 550 kit installed on, with the same tune, that has been running for over 2 years.

I used the whipple tune for 10k miles and it was perfectly safe and powerful.

I was making about 440rwhp with that tune.

Then I went and had a dyno tune at VMP in FL and got 484rwhp and 469rwtq.

Really woke the car up, but the whipple tune was fine too. I would run that for a while and then when you are ready for a few more oats go find a good dyno tuner even if it is a bit of a trek.

Good Luck.

Other than a "few" hiccups during the install, I really haven't had any problems. :beerdrink: <- well, other than that drinking thing. And tire wear. And gas mileage...
