I'm taking out of retirement parts from one of Dan Gurney's ex 1967 Cougar Trans Am 289 ci engines so I can race the next event in AI. My 47 year old Trans Am engine against 3V's, Coyote's, and LSX engines. It should be fun to see how well I do. The dyno sheet I have from 1967 shows that it made 406 hp at the crank. That should put me just under were I need to be for hp to weight.
I have new billet rods that have an interior oil hole from the rod journal to the wrist pin hole (forced pin oiling) coming from Junior Johnson. I also bought a new R-452 block, billet crank, cam and road race pistons from another NASCAR Cup team. Combining the parts that I already have along with the new parts, my engine will be 363ci, have 13.98:1 compression, and the cam with my 1.9 ratio rockers will be .857 lift and 282/291 @ .050 on a 110 LSA. That combo should make around 900 hp at 9,000 rpms.
