Does anyone have any tricks to changing plugs on a whipple 3V with new heads, especially the driver's side? I just am not looking forward to bloody knuckles again.

I don't have the new heads but i don't remember having any issues. I think I pulled off the intake tube and throttle body to facilitate the changing of the #8 plug. I also have a wobble extension that I use for those weird spots.

A trick for getting them started is to use a piece of 3/8" (or possibly 5/16") fuel hose. Cut a 6" length and stick it on the end of the plug so you can get the plug in the hole and threads started. I also cut a short piece and it fit perfectly into the end of my 14mm deep socket, allowing it to hold the plug in place without falling out.

Off the top of my head I can't remember the combination I used but a couple different extensions and a swivel work just fine on older heads, I pull the tube but leave the TB.

Just takes finding the right sized extension to fit under the elbow. Changed mine with both style heads several times and once you figure out which size extension you need, it becomes cake.

I was always able to do it. IIRC I was able to get the socket and ratchet under the intake elbow.
