New personal best with NA motor: 12.54@110
The Northern Virginia Mustang Club hosted it's final drag rental day of 2008 today, and the turnout was fantastic. This is held from
April to September at Mason Dixon Dragway in Boonsboro, Maryland from 8am-12pm on select Saturdays. It's open to any Mustang or Ford, and special invited guests, which today included some hot late model Corvette's, including a built Z06. For those of you in the area, I think this is one of the better clubs with a real host of friendly people. Nobody is uptight about anything, unlike some (NOT ALL) of the Maryland clubs.
The weather was cool, and I guess I should calculate the DA as I'm sure it was decent. Track prep was very good and few folks with drag tires were spinning much at all. I ran 7 times (my son in his '86 about 12 times) from 8:30-10:00. I usually ran twice, cooled down, and then ran again, except I did 3 runs for the last part of the day there.
Today, I used new Mickey Thompson 275/40-17 ET Street Radials. I prefer the larger 295/45-17s but those are on national backorder AGAIN. The 275s are a short 26" tire, which gives me good trap speed, but are shitty street tires. The 295 is a great compromise with street and strip, and once they are available I'm buying 4 so I have two in reserve.
Until today, my best was 12.60 at 108. For my first two runs, I set the tire pressure at 18psi and the QA1 shocks at 6 (1 is soft, 10 is firm). I ran a 12.76 at 109 with a 1.73 60ft, then a 12.67 at 109 with a 1.71 60 foot. Ok, dropped the tire pressure to 16psi after cooling the car off, and ran a 12.73 at 109, 1.70 60ft, then a 12.60 at 109, 1.69 60 ft. The car was getting dialed in.
I kept the tire pressure where it was, and added firmness by going to setting 7 on the rear shocks. And for the next 3 runs, I'm paired up with a beautiful late model vette in yellow, albeit street tires.
Run 5: 12.55 at 110, 1.69 60ft (vette, 12.73 at 112)
Run 6: 12.54 at 110, 1.66 60ft (vette, 12.64 at 113)
Both personal bests!!
In run 7, I blew the 1-2 shift and the vette had me with a 12.66 to my 12.72. But my earlier 12.54 is putting me within reach of the mythical 12.00.
The 1/8 mile data is missing, but please plug in the remainder!!! It's hard to read so here it is:
