Power ratings?

I saw a news story on the new Mustangs and powerplants. The ratings were 420 for the 5.0, 300 or 305 for the V6, and 300 or 305 for the 2.3 ecoboost 4 cylinder.

Does anyone have any solid data from Ford? I'm also wondering what the boost level is on the ecoboost and what turbo it's using.

From what I hear Ford will be messing with tuning right up until the car is sold so they have not released any power numbers.

IDK much about the EcoBoost (EB) aside from what I know about the other EB motors that have been out for a few years. Expect the EB motor to make a LOT more power with a tune. The EB trucks make something like 12psi stock and 18-19psi with a tune. I also remember reading that one of the EB 4cyl motors spun its turbo to something like 270,000rpm or something crazy like that. With a warranty!

All I know is that the 2.3 uses a Honeywell turbo. I have been trying to research and find out which one though.

The new 2014 Lincoln MKC utilizes the same 2.3L Ecoboost but is 270 hp/ 300tq, expect more than that easily. Should be more than 305HP for marketing it over the standard V6.

I've seen a dyno graph (not that it means much) of a 2.0L EB making 345/350 at the tires.

I have a number in my head that it will be 325-350, especially if the 5.0 is over 450 considering it has all the goodies and then some of the previous roadrunner engine.

With tiers of cars and different engines, such as F-150 5.0 vs the Ecoboost, the numbers given becomes a marketing tool that reels in potential buyers, so the added cost/value of the 2.3 will be shown with larger numbers. It's easier for this type of customer to see larger numbers and "comparable fuel ratings" to make a decision versus taking apart and looking at all the aspects of each engine and take longer to decide.

Bringing it back to the MKC, I'm hopeful Ford will bring this engine into the Edge and with the aftermarket we could see a pretty badass experience with a AWD MKC/Edge with the 2.3L engine.

Ford sells a tune for the Focus ST that makes 360 or something torque...so yeah there's a lot in the tunes. Should be even better with more displacement.

As a f150 EB owner with a tune (SSI, best shit period) the difference between tune and stock is huge.

Any numbers?

I have a different tune, custom charge air pipe, 75mm TB and a cat back system (a quiet Magnaflow one), stock airbox and filter, stock downpipes and cats.

384hp/518tq and that is through a 4x4 drivetrain and had 33's on it when on the dyno.

It would make more power with more fuel pump. My tuner didn't want to push it though.

That's a lot of power. Especially through a transfer case. I wonder how those numbers compare with a stock diesel?

Well the Scorpion 6.7 in Super Duty is 400hp/800tq at engine. After driving an Ecoboost F150 and now my current F250, I'm pretty confident that after a tune on an ecoboost truck plus work like gmitch has done, it would be very comparable numbers. The torque would still be a little off, but still. I would estimate stock is 330-350 whp / 660~ wtq on a 6.7. I haven't really looked into it.

I just did some poking around and it looks like the diesel makes about 300/640 at the wheels.......that's a lot of torque!

Yeah, its a blast to drive. Not very much stuff will beat it in a stoplight drag race. And it will tow 8000# at 80mph like it's not even there. I've run 13.10 @ 101mph with it and that was only with a 1.9sec 60ft. I've seen EB F-150's go 1.7 60ft with 3.73's and stock tires (33's and 3.55's don't help the short time).

I think a tuned EB Mustang may surprise a few people. Especially bolt on 3v guys. And if well driven, even some Coyote cars.

Damn that's a pretty big loss. However, I love putting my foot into that thing. It's fast for nearly 4.2 tons.

Holy crap, do they really weigh that much? Wow!

I've driven my tuners F-250 4x4 with a 6.2L and a 2.9L Whipple. It makes something like 575/575 and I wasn't very blown away. Maybe its because it weighs as much as my house.

I'm curious on what the 5.0 will be rated at with its improvements.

Now add a good tune to that and see what it does. Lol
