PA is now making a built 5R55S but I don't know how well it holds up. I would believe what PA says before I would TCI.

I Have a Performance Automatic 5r55s with stock converter, putting 450 at the wheels with no issues at all, it has a dipstick and everything with it. i have been really happy with it.

Well.not so fast!!! When i test drove it last Friday from the tranny shop...it was like 99 degrees....so i only went maybe two miles. Sweating like a pig!!Drove it on a BUMPY road.
Thought i felt a weird vibration...figured..wtf..must just be me. Drove it last Friday night after unloading it.....bumpy roads again...thought..feels like vibrating. Parked it all week....had problems with 29 yr old step-daughter and her boyfriend..AGAIN!!! Forgot about car all together. Got it out tonight to wash it for a cruise-in tomorrow night. Drove it on a smooth highway....vibrates like hell from underneath????? Harmonic like a driveshaft??? Put it on jack stands ... no vibration till let off gas a little then throttled up again..vibrates like CRAZY?????????? It has a Dyno Tech aluminum shaft. NEVER had a vibration like this before?? Can it bge installed wrong/need to rotate it on the flanges...etc???

If the alignment tool was not used on the converter to align the adapter plate then you may soon toast the pump . I know some say the tool's not necessary but, I have been there and it was this that took out the pump in mine.

That is why i hate the TCI converters. I love my PI, that bolts on without the adapter.

I am getting a stroker short block from Livernois (it is being build now) and then I was planning on up grading the torque converter. After reading this thread I have changed my mind about getting a TCI TC.
What is the TC you have from PI and how many HP is it rated for? Thanks.

No idea on a numerical rating, but I have not heard of anyone breaking it - The one I got was the 9.5" triple disk with a 3200 stall. cost slight above 1k, but he fully warranties the converter and offers a free stall adjustment within one year.

I am looking for a torque converter. Checked Circle D and cannot find any products for the 5R55. What are you guys using CD using? Here is the link:

just call or email chris at Circle D, I will be getting a circle D after reading this thread....
http://s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60583

i cut 1.70 short times almost every run with a stock converter so after reading this if i get even close to the same results I will be one happy man.

Finally got the car out yesterday. Still has that vibration at road speed. NEVER did it till the trans/convertor were changed. The shop DID use the alignment tool on the convertor....they do mainly HP trans work and rearend work also. I did have them install my FRPP rear end cover/girdle when it was up on the hoist. Funky noises now coming from rear after driving a ways and warming it up??? WTF??? Has that vibration i did NOT have prior to trans swap/rear girdle install...and funky whine/screeching from rear when let off gas??????

On a positive note...the TCI trans/convertor seem to work fine..this time!! All it took was them rebuilding the SHIT one twice..them alot of arguing..BAM new trans/convertor and i have a TON of $$$$$ in the junk setup i originally purchased/paid to R&R several times.....Don't want to JYNX myself (fingers crossed here)...lol
