Huge contests Paul! It's been a long time coming for you!

You think you'll get it all completed in time for spring air?

Well I did a bunch of small stuff this weekend:

1) Installed the high torque mini starter---had to rotate it quite a bit to clear the headers. Also had to route the wires a very specific way for the most clearance.

2) Installed the trans lines (-8 AN) off of transmission to trans cooler.

3) Installed a locking trans dipstick made by Lokar--its pretty trick, fire wall mount that locks on both the top and at the trans. I had to drop the pan to install it, but it sure came out nice and it will never come loose.

4) Wired in the coil and 7AL3 MSD ignition. Wired in the fuel pump, water pump, electric fan, and starter. Tested the starter, turns over the motor pretty good. Wiring all this in was pretty easy--the hardest part is actually running all of the damn wire throughout the car in a well thought out / clean manner--thats what takes all the time.

5) Removed all exhaust header tubes and took ultra fine sand paper to polish the tubes, they look so much better. Reinstalled--took the blue painters tape off, and installed for the last time with Fel Pro 1420 exhaust gaskets, which matched perfectly to the headers / heads.

And the best news--the car will be started next weekend! After a year and 2 months, the car will finally be finished!

Paul, I'm afraid you just signed off on a death wish  Good luck buttoning up the last few bits and finally getting to put some seat time in on it.

Ok ok, while the car may never be finished, I plan on racing it at least a couple years before I change the pistons and throw on an F2 Procharger.......

I can edit my quote if you'd like no written record of saying that :bigbeer: may the car gods shine in your favor!

After a year and 2 months of staring at shit for hours only to come back to the first thought I had when I walked into the garage that day and people telling me that I am nuts , and the never ending bills that come with this shit, the car will finally be finished!

Fixed it for you ! Good luck , looks nice.

Outrageous build ......must rattle the dinner plates out of the neighbors cupboards :) . Would dearly love to have your car in my garage, maybe one day i may own a BB . I am particularly interested in your headers, very unique in how you fabricated them, can you do up some pix , descriptions on your construction techniques etc ? Did you use a mini belt sander to clean up the welds ? How did you finish polish ? They look super .:thumb2:

We are about to find out this Saturday---neighbors have already been warned.

The headers are a step header-- 2 1/4 to a 2 3/8s step to a 4 1/2 collector. I did not build them, however, Overkill Fabrication in Covina built them.

They are a 4 to 1 collector design, with each of the four tubes seperate--so they are easy to remove and re-install once you take the collectors off.

To obtain the finish in the last pic (post 798), I simply used 400, then 600, then 800 sand paper to get a pretty good satin / polish looking finish. When they deteriorate after some use, I will just take them off and re-sand them and they will look new.
