Question about my Brenspeed Tune

I have been running my Brenspeed 93 octane tune for awhile now (about 6 months), but I've been meaning to post about a few things I noticed, since I've got it. I have noticed that ever since I switched from my stock intake and tune to my 93 octane tune that I don't feel a huge power increase until I hit 3K RPMs. It does this every time I hit 3K RPMs in every gear.

Is that normal for everyone else running just a 93 octane brenspeed tune with just a JLT CAI?? I was hoping that I would feel a power increase all through the power band, not just from 3K RPMs and up.

The other thing that I noticed is that I am getting lower MPG with the 93 tune than I was stock. It's been about 17.5-18 MPG on both Highway and on City (this happens even when I drive like an old lady). All the posts, I've ever read about getting a brenspeed tune or other canned tune result in slightly better gas mileage over stock.

What gives?? Are both of these things normal for you people running a 93 oct. brenspeed tune or not??

The weak power under 3K is normal with the Brenspeed tune.

Ive ran quite a few different tunes on my car. Brenspeed tunes pull the hardest up top without a doubt. BBR tunes are the best for down low. Bama / AM tunes are about in the middle. Brenspeed has been my favorite tunes so far.

So I take it you can't get a tune that pulls hard throughout whole powerband?

I didn't like the weak low end of the Brenspeed tune at all and it never acted quite right when cold either. I like my AM tunes (especially the Race tune) better.

The only thing I don't like about the AM tunes, and my old bama tunes were the same way, is it's very clunky on the 3->2 downshift and sometimes on the 2->3 upshift. I have auto. The Brenspeed tune if I remember correctly didn't make the clunk as bad. It was there but tolerable. The clunk I have now drives me nuts. A tune with stock trans tuning doesn't clunk at all.

Now if I can only get someone at AM to tweak my tune for this.....

I ordered a Brenspeed 93-octane tune when I got my JLT CAI and also noticed the same thing you do. Anything under 3k just felt sluggish.

I also have "Free tunes for life" or whatever from AM so I tried their 93-octane Race and Performance tunes. I personally thought the AM tunes felt better than the Brenspeed tune I paid money for.

Forgive my ignorance about these tunes, but when you say "race" tune, does that mean the 93 tunes are "race" tunes and generally pull harder in the top end like mine is currently doing?

If so, does that mean the 87 tunes are more for low end torque?? because I felt like when I ran my 87 tune it pulled hard right off the bat, but dropped off towards higher RPMs.

The race tune feels way more responsive all over. I use it exclusively.

The street and perf tunes are still very good tunes AM has though.

I feel like I should know this, but what is the difference between the street, performance and race tunes?

You know you can probably email Chris Rose at AM and tell him what you want as far
as powerband. You could probably call Brenspeed too and tell them you would like them to adjust the tune.

From what you are saying you would rather have something right in the middle.
I bet either place could change it up a little for you.

This is the advantage of a dyno tune.
Not knocking AM or Brenspeed. They both make great tunes
but they are pretty much two size fits all as far as the power goes.

I have Brenspeed and C&L Racer CAI and also have a little what I call a "pause" in the low end powereband. I find it a little beneficial as it provides a little time to get traction before it surges.

However, I do have increased MPG. Even after switching to 4.10 gears I still get better MPG with my 93 Oct tune.

Your MPG prolly went down cause you into the throttle more. The feeling of less power might be you getting use to what you have. I ran a brenspeed tune for a year and I felt the same way, like it was less strong after a while, but track times proved me wrong. Might be time to get more gofast mods.

I just read all the Post here.
I suggest you simply give Brenspeed a call and discuss the situation with them.

Not to come across here as a smart ass but nothing is going to get solved over the Internet.
