It is easy to clock your alternator with it on the car. Simply disconnect the negative battery cable, and then while tightly holding the case of the alternator so it can't move back, remove the the 3 screws and rotate it CCW until the holes line up again (I had to persuade mine tp rotate CCW with a rubber mallet, but it did rotate!), and then install the 3 screws. Just don't let it slip backwards or you are in for some fun getting the brushes back in!

If you are timid about doing it on the car, then yea, you will have to take the belt off and remove the alternator. Which is probably the recommended way of doing it. But I very seldom do things the recommended way.

Look, the search function works 'cause I found this thread.

I do not have the battery cable extension and am getting ready to install the Saleen S/C. Will flipping the alternator around and clocking it CCW give me enough battery cable so it's not stretching diagonally across the engine bay?

No, if you do not extend the battery cable it will not stretch cleanly around the engine bay. I plan on replacing my charge cable with a longer, slightly larger wire this spring, but for now here's how it looks:

(not the best pic, but you can see it heading to/from the battery)

I install my own Saleen kit and my battery cable fit just fine.

I clocked mine while it was on the car with the belt and all. Just be VERY careful not to let the case slide toward the front of the car. A rubber mallet is handy to persuade it. EDIT: I did disconnect the negative battery cable.

I'll be taking the alternator off to swap the pulley and turning it around, so I'll just clock it while i have it on the bench. Guess I need to go out and try to find a battery cable extension or a longer battery cable. Actually, based on Mike's post, probably better to go with a longer cable vs dealing with extending the one in the car.

Montreal Qc,
Mine was very easy to clock while I was unable to get my friends to turn even with a BFH so we let it be. I used the extender which I filled with flux and then heated it with a torch and soldered it.

That is why I chose not to use the extension kit- I want to install an uninterrupted link from alternator to battery.

Mine has it, I think most kits do. I think Scramblr bought his blower used from a member, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I got mine from Cali HP and he kept the extension on his car. I just hope I can find a long cable around here.

Just wondering...can someone measure the length of the cable with extension so I know how long of a cable I need? TIA...

I think I called him a bastard or something like that...But I was drinking his beer and he threw chicken and steaks on the grill so I retracted.
