So i've been searching this off and on for a while.... i want to remove this for weight savings and cosmetics, mostly weight savings though.

Once you remove it, what exactly do you do with the lines that were attahed to it? I would obviously get a tune to turn off the CELs but what about the lines?

Thanks!

Several threads here on it. Think the most recent was by GI Joe. Chevykiller also has a thread on it.

hmmm

so basically alls i do is remove the evap canister and plug the lines?
That is what I did today . I left the hose that come from the tank to the evap crap and cut it off at the tallest point and caped it there . that way the cap will see less fuel then caping at the tank . FWIW this only save 18lb and it is behind the wheels , so I wouldnt do it for weight savings at all. Now not seeing that shit back there no more well that just depends on if you really want to spend 1.5 hrs working on the car and paying for a new tune . I did mine so I could cut out the spare tire sump and add a flat alum. piece to make the trunk flat and have a good place to mount my trans coolers .

wait, why does it take 1.5 hrs to do?
Put the car on jack stands , remove the stuff in the rear , remove the stuff in the front , (for me ) get all the line from on top of the BMR subframe connectors (20-30 min) , cap the line and intake , remove the car from jack stands .

fuel evap

I had some issues with my removal;
1. With the gas line caped on the passenger side of the tank, it would prevent me from putting more than a few cups of gas at a time before it would overflow.
2. My gas mileage went from about 12 to 6-8 around town.
3. I think a tune may be very important, but some people say that you don't need one??? Based on what it may have done to my motor, I strongly recommend one!

You didnt get any CELs or codes without turning this stuff off in the tune ?

CEL's

Stroker, I had no CEL's. I disconnected the one in the rear and reconnected to the plug that I took off the canister. Don't know if that did a thing, or why it would, just got lucky with CEL's at least?

After reading your post about hard to fill the tank , I steped back and looked at everything today and you are lucky you even got a drop in there with the way the fill tube is routed. I went back in today and ran a line from the caped vent tube to the filler neck at the fill door . I will post some pics tomarrow , if you are doing this then there has to be a way to let air out as you fill , especialy since the filler neck dips down lower then its connection on the tank . Only down side is to keep the vent line on a rise and not diping I had to go through the trunk for a bit but the carpet will cover so no biggy.

great idea

Stroker, that is a great :idea:I will have to do that when I get my car back. I am interested to see how you tied into the filler. If there was a T-adapter which could go between the upper filler tube and the vent, that would be perfect. Any gas would just go back into the tank. By the way, to get gas in, I had to shake my car. You should see the looks I get! Look forward to your pics. Thanks

Here are the pics . I am still waiting on one fitting for the hose in the tire well. I did this with fittings and hose I had laying around besides the one I am waiting on . This can be done with some 3/4 in hose all the way through but you would need to cut bigger holes and use rubber gromets so it doesnt cut the hose .

I left both the lines at the tank open to air. They need to be open to allow the tank to vent.
Most importantly I left them like that for a week in closed garage while I was on vacation and came back to no ZERO gas smell. Some had said it would smell if you do this. NOPE. No issues. I had CEL and my tuner turned them off.
