Putting a new to me 4.6 in my 07 soon. The motor has about 15k on it and has been stored for around 5 years, so the flywheel and clutch are a bit rusty, however still bolted up to the motor. Would you guys bother pulling it all apart or just let it self clean by driving?

For what it will cost to resurface it, you can buy a light-weight one for
a little more, or the same depending on what you're gonna be charged
for the resurface. That's why they don't resurface brake rotors anymore.

You don't have to resurface it all the time. If it went to the rivets and
scarred it, then yes or replace. I have never had one resurfaced, and
never had issues. You will get chatter all the time if the flywheel has
hard spots or warped. Clutch material will come off eventually.

I don’t know where you can get a lightweight flywheel as cheap as a resurface in my area costs between 50-100 for a resurface.

If I was in your position I would hit it with a roloc bristle disc to knock the surface rust off if that didn’t do it I would carefully try with a regular roloc. I would also replace the clutch.

With only 15k miles, you can clean up that flywheel. I missed that part...

Have those in my toolbox and didn't even think about that. Thanks.

I think they might have a lot of sandals old helicopter parts and christmas lights in them, though... would trust oem ford for one cut or two, then go to a good brand name one.. well... if that still exists.
