Roush m90 Strut brace ?

Hi guys I have a 2007 ROUSH Stage 3 with the m90 blower on it and I’m trying to find a strut tower brace that fits on top of the supercharger other than the $380 roush one. I heard maybe steeda makes one [emoji848] thanks

The plain Jane GT500 brace will clear the blower if you turn it around but it will hit your hood. There just isn't any room there. If you run a BMR K member that drops the engine mounts and if you run an aftermarket hood then you can find a couple that will clear both the blower and the hood. Every single person who owned one of these went through the exact same thing and almost everybody ended up not running a strut brace.

I never bought anything from Steeda. They never really excited me much and I saw too many of their custom items turned into piles of rust after 4-5 years.

GT500 is what I did. The one I got barely touches the hood. I also push it down in the center while tightening the strut mount bolts to keep it a little lower.

Steeda makes TWO STB's that easily clear the M90....and also clear the hood. They are both made from heat treated 4130 chromolly steel, and no they don't rust... even years later. One of the fellows on the old Roush forum put a go-pro camera plus lights, plus measuring device in there... then closed the oem hood. Everything cleared, but that was on a 2010, which has the ...'power dome hood". I tried the other version Steeda makes on my own 2010, and it too clears both the M90..and also the hood liner. However, the stb tube on my version just barely touches the rubber Roush CAI oval tube on the driver's side. ( 2010 M90 CAI is on driver's side, and is really short.. vs the 'anaconda' cai on the 05-09 M90 cai's).

I informed Steeda that both versions clear the M90 and hood liner. The rest is history. The advantage of the Steeda STB is it uses ALL 4 studs on each side. Most STB's only use the inner 2 x studs (inboard studs)..and also use oval shaped holes. Since there is only 26 ft lbs on the studs, plus oval shaped holes, the typ stb assy is not really bonded very well to shock towers.

The Steeda STB uses these massive super thick Al assy's at each end, and also their 4 x close tolerance recessed holes at the top of each strut assy. Each assy just clears the 4 x studs on each side. The actual STB tube uses a rod end spherical at each end of the STB, ( with a hd transverse bolt / nut assy)...and also inline locking threads (so the overall length of the stb tube can be precisely tweaked,so the 4 x studs fit at each end. One end is reverse threaded, just like a turnbuckle).

Ok, now the STB is locked down tight at both ends, with precise fit..and 26 ft lbs on ALL 8 x studs. Another advantage of their design, is the single transverse bolt / nut at either end can easily be removed, and the STB tube can be swung upwards. That came in handy, when I replaced my oem twin 55mm TB with the FRPP twin 62mm TB. Also came in handy, when replacing spark plug #8 (closest to firewall on driver's side). Or the transverse bolt/nut can be removed at both ends, and the entire STB tube can then be removed, if required..like if M90 replaced with a VMP drop in TVS-1900.

In my case, after the fact, I bought and installed a pair of HD steeda strut mounts. That allows for camber adjustment. The steeda HD strut mounts with their 4 x studs mate perfectly with the above steeda STB. I then tweaked the HD strut mount for max negative camber. (aprx -2.0 deg on each side). Once the desired camber was dialed in, those 4 x studs are cranked to 26 ft lbs...and left alone, you don't want to touch em after that, otherwise, with all 4 x loosened, you will screw up your camber adjustment. Hence the included transverse bolt / nut at each end. That way, the STB tube can be swung up at either end, or removed altogether, without having to touch the 8 x studs.

IMO, the oem strut mounts are junk, one time use only, and allow for no camber adjustment. Stock, mine was -.4 deg on pass side, and -1.4 deg on driver's side. Ford specs state 0 to -1.5 deg is within spec. However, they don't mention them being the same. At least with the steeda HD strut mounts, I can dial in a fair amount of neg camber... and both sides can be identical !

On a side note, when the JBA ceramic LT's were installed, JBA said to replace the oem ford 'hydra' gel filled / squishy eng mounts..with steeda HD eng mounts. Being a one shot deal, I did that, and also took advantage of the option that allows for oem eng height, or lower by 1/4" and also 1/2"..and also 3/4". We used the 1/4" eng lowering option. This lowered the eng by 1/4"..which lowers the CG a bit. Steering shaft easily clears the LT primary's on driver's side). Steeda STB no longer just touches the Roush rubber oval CAI (on driver's side on a 2010 M90). Now clears nicely. Steeda provides 6 x poly eng mounts with their HD eng mounts, 2 x black and 4 x red. The black ones have a slightly stiffer durometer. So I used one black and one red on each side for max rigidity...as per their install manual. ( their GT-500 version comes with 4 x blacks only). End result is eng doesn't flop side to side, doesn't budge. No increase in NVH either. OEM eng mount heat shields are re-used.

I have a few other Steeda bits and pieces, and have had zero issues, no rust or fitment issues. I also have a lot of BMR items installed, and no issue with them either, nor the Whiteline watts link.

Boss 302 fits as well. I have my powder coated one for sale.

Boss 302 STB will NOT clear the M90 blower. I had to remove the Boss 302 STB, after my M90 was installed. Sold it to a local friend, to use on his 2008 GT.

Interesting to note, that STB originally came out in 2010, for use on my 2010 GT. In 2011, it was used on the 2011 V6 cars, since they are a lot higher in the middle, vs the 2011 GT. It was re-used again in 2012/13 on the Boss 302 cars..where it was re-named the 'Boss 302 STB'.

It's a nice brace.... but unfortunately, it won't clear the Roush M90 blower, not even close.

Odd you had issues, afaik it fits the 05-09 m90 cars, the fact that I saw it on a 08 bullitt m90 car locally years ago is why I originally bought one myself. My steeda dual bar stb I had before did not clear frpp or jpc. But the boss one did. Unfortunately doesnt fit my current custom intake so have to let it go. May get some spacers to try and fit it still, I have an aftermarket hood so do have some room to go up. I cant use a 4 bolt style as I have cc plates.

Quick search shows its a common choice for passenger inlet 05-09 m90 setups.

Point well taken. I have a 2010 GT, and the Boss 302 brace won't clear the CAI / TB which is on the driver's side on the 2010. It would require a massive spacer, at which point the 302 Brace won't clear the 2010 oem 'power dome hood'. ( still wouldn't work, since not enough oem stud length for the required spacer).

i modified my stock bullitt brace, ford racing with a bullitt tag, to clear a 2.3 tvs.
i have a BMR K member with drop mounts.

I have an M90 on my 07, I've tried many STBs including Steeda but the only one I found to fit was the GT500 brace. I agree it's not ideal with only 2 bolt holes per side but IMO better than nothing or messing with changing hood etc.

mrt2you, how did you modify your stock bullitt brace - I can't tell from the photos. I am planning to install a Whipple 2.9, and not sure the GT500 brace will fit on top of that.

i modified the brace by bending up the rear bar about 3/4" where it goes over the throttle body.
i pie cut the top of the bar in about 8 places, bent it up them welded the pie cuts up.
i then cut the bar in 1/2 in the same area then welded in some flat stock in the hole i made in the bar.
after welding i ground the welds with 80 grit until smooth. after that i had it powder coated with a chrome then a satin clear, cost me $100.
if you look at the side view of the can you can easily see the mods to the bar where it goes over the throttle body.
NOTE: try to support the area where you bent it when you are welding it. if you don't the bar bend will walk back to straight if you don't.
also because i am using a GT500 hood and the strut bar indentation in the factory hood is more towards the front of the car than a GT hood i had to slightly bend the center of the rear bar down to clear the hood. if you look closely at the side view you can see the bend in the bar in the middle.

here are some pics of the bar next to a NOS one after powder coating.
in the first pics i posted the bar is in a aerosol bomb primer that was removed before powder coating.
