So I already know this is a silly question and I already know the answer but I'm going to take the plunge in the shark tank and ask anyway. Reason why I ask is because I've never seen anyone do it so my brain says to me, "must be a reason". Anyways, I'm in the process of converting my 06 front end to a 2014 gt500. The new hood is bmr's black mamba ram air hood. I see no reason why I shouldnt but could I take the box off around the intake? Then just make a bracket to hold the filter up. This would make for better flow of air I would imagine. Wasn't sure if the box was their for any other special reason than to protect the filter or maybe keep a little more heat away from it. Thanks. Btw, to avoid people asking and to reiterate, the picture of my intake is below.

Picture isn't working for me. Not sure about the 06, but in my 10, the box around the air filter keeps the hot engine air from being drawn into the intake

Looks very nice man! Very clean, makes me sad when i see mine lol. I run a jlt series 3, there is no box. The shield somewhat holds the air filter in place

Thank you. There's just a small clearance issue that the shroud is making with the box shaped ducting on the hood for the ram air that sits right over the shroud. It would just fit a little better if I got rid of the shroud. Besides, I would assume the air coming out of the ram air would be better than the air coming from underneath the shroud.
