Scratched Cam Journal?

I recently bought a set of used Hot Rods and they look good with the exception of this journal. The scratch does catch my fingernail, so I'm a bit worried. Any help is greatly appreciated! Edit: they are FRPP Hot Rod cams

Well as a ford tech. We replace cams for this reason. But i have seen some factory cams (on some high milage trucks) have some scoring and run good and good oil pressure. But don't know how long they ran for and if they still are.

You can have delta cams repair it.

Any idea what that would run me? And in your opinion, is that necessary to run them safely? Apparently the stock cams have similar marks on my buddies car

If it is a steel billet cam I would use crocus cloth with an 8" smooth file for backup and wd40 to lightly and carefully smooth the ridges down.

Since this is on a rotating journal I don't think it would be a problem afterwards, even if the cam is cast. Just don't keep rubbing on the same spot and flatten it! Rotate the cam with the other hand while rotating it and stroking the file/crocus cloth in the other hand. Very minimal dimension change should be incured.

I have done this on normal sbf billet cams and not encountered any problems and this was on the Lobe's!

Do a Google Search for removing burrs & removing scratches from metal. You'll find some video in there that'll help you feel more comfortable.

I found a guy that can remove the scratches if its needed. However, what would be the negative to installing the cam as-is? Especially since our cars don't using bearings

Around $40 iirc. You can search their website out and call.

I don't think it will hurt a thing as long as there isn't a ridge.

Yeah, there's no ridge, it's just an "indented" scratch.

It wouldn't bother me honestly, but that's just me. I've seen far worse that have run just fine for years.
