Separator Plate

Perhaps I am missing something but is the separator plate between the motor and trans on a manual car held on by anything other then the alignment dowels? I have tried to remove it to transfer it over to the new motor but it won't budge. Neither will the dowels. Anyone have any tips for removing it or the dowels? I sprayed it down with some deep creep and will check it in the morning I just wanted to get the long block in the car tomorrow and this is the only thing slowing me up.

It is only held in by the dowels according to my Ford manual.

Just the dowels, mine basicly fell off as I pulled the trans and you can slip it out with the clutch still on. I forgot to put mine back on the other day and I had already put the new clutch on, but I was able to slide it behind and get it in place on the dowels.

These cars are so weird. My engine and trans came apart so easily when others fight it for awhile but this plate which is supposed to fall off is almost welded on there.

Well I got it off. Someone either at the factory or the previous owner peened the edge around the dowel once on each dowel as to secure the plate on. Similar to the way a M4 has it's gas key screws peened to the gas key to prevent them from backing out and stopping the weapon.
