I would post this in the tech section, but quite frankly the folks scare me over there.

Last payment will be in May, so what better way to celebrate than spending more money?

Goals: reliable power between 425 and 450 rwhp, daily driver, some improved handling, and maybe appearance upgrades if there's anything left.

I can do some of the upgrades myself if they're easy, otherwise I'll have to get them installed. I'm more of a newbie to car tech than an expert.

Thoughts: probably looking at supercharger with all the accompanying mods, shocks, maybe other suspension bits. would also like to upgrade exhaust for looks and sound. Will I need further drivetrain upgrades to handle the power?

Oh, and its a stick.

For that power, a S/C with a safe tune will get you there. Suspension, tire, drivetrain upgrades all depend on what you are trying to do with the car.

For handling, some springs, shocks, and better tires will vastly improve the handling.

I've thought about doing an engine swap (the Aluminator looks particularly enticing), but the car must remain a daily driver for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately I only have one parking spot at my condo, so I can't get a crapcan and just go nuts with the 197.

I like to autocross, but again I can't get too ridiculous. Konis if they're in stock, probably the non-adjustable ones. I imagine I could install those myself.

The supercharger (or turbo, although I would like the instant power of a twin-screw) is the big unknown. I don't really plan on selling the car, so perhaps I could purchase the supercharger with an eye toward the future. For instance, get a Whipple/KB/Saleen and just put some relatively mild boost down, perhaps 8psi. That should get me the reliable power I'm looking for without building the stock engine up, but if I wanted to get forged or swap out the engine, I won't have to get a new blower.

Thing is, do I trust myself to install the thing? Hardest thing I've done to my car is install a CAI and tune, so I dunno if I trust myself with something like a blower.

If your already doubting your abilities, do not attempt to install a blower/motor with out knowledgeable help.

From a former turbo owner ....my vote would be saleen or whipple . Don't get me wrong turbos are a beast but If I would do it again I would go whipple in a heartbeat .

I think the saleen's come intercooled and the whipple, er doesn't(the HO does.. I think)

I am leaning more and more towards the Saleen for that reason.

For $8K - get supercharged all the way. As a novice, it seems to me the turbos are great for top end and serious track cars, but for us DD guys just looking to kick it up a notch, the super chargers get you that power across the RPM range.

I am guessing if you pay for labor and all the parts you need to get it safe on your stock motor and the good tune, you will spend it all on just that.

Of course if you can find a good deal, that leaves money over for other things.

BTW, who wants to sell me a Saleen Supercharger for $2k?

Go with a good upgradeable blower kit for 5 - 6 grand and keep it around 450rwhp or less and put the rest of the money in the bank and add to it until you get enough to beef up the drive line and add a forged short block. Then crank up the boost and really rock!

that's actually not a bad idea... say $18k for the trade in and another $8k equals $26k on a very nicely equipped new 2011 for like $33k... put 4.10s and a 150 shot and you'll have a 10 second car

i love my whipple it that helps any!! i drive my car daily (40 miles) and have no issues what so ever.
my head would tell me to supercharge it with an upgradable charger ie procharger whipple or kb all of those with stock motors make good power but can always make more with a built motor espescially prochargers....but i do say the instant power of the whipple or kb is great (not to mention the whine) but the prochargers sound like a jet under boost IMO lol
