When you change from 17" to 18" wheels you need steering rack limiters to stop the rubbing. Here is the Ford one. They come stock on all Mustangs with wheels bigger than 17". You need one for each side of the rack. I would not use spacers unless your wheel is hitting the brake calipers. I am 73 BTW. If you want to wake up that 3.7 you need a MPT tune. A 3.31 rear axle really helps too. You will be amazed at the difference.

Have a 2013 convertible, stock 17" tires going away. Scored a set of 2013 Boss 302 wheels currently being refinished as yah they are going on 13 years old.

Let's talk rack limiters, I followed the link, cheap enough, but where do they go? How are they installed? Really need two? Since the wheels are oem on a 2013 (Boss 302 not a base V6) Does the Boss have these factory? I know many questions.

76 y/o guy ...I just changed out the my convertible base front sway bar with a whiteline kit. The installer said the rear would not fit. So a couple of questions? Is there a way to use the rear on the convertible? If, so how? If not, anybody want a deal?

If not, best replacement of links, bushings OR sway bar kit to tighten up the rear. Reasonably priced since the cost of the car is adding up. I added a Shelby strut brace in the trunk. One on the front under hood, OEM. I changed out the struts and shocks to KYB, not interested in lowering, speed humps and age.

All other suspension parts OEM. I want to keep this car and am willing to change out what is needed. Rural roads with pot holes and some mountain curves for fun ...What do your suggest? All paved road roading but I want as much tight cornering as possible with stock hight.

Also changed out 17 OEM tires to 18 235/50/18 Goodyear eagle all season tires on OEM chrome cragar style rims ( probably from a 2007 or so...)and have rubbing on front on Sharp turns, like in Parking lot, etc... Installed 1/8 spacers and still rubbing. Looks good but...

Do I need bigger spacers, if so thoughts? Tire and rim installers thought 1/8 would be enough and keep stud and thread enough for safety.I prefer to keep the rims and tires b/c wife brought as a Christmas gift, used rims and new tires.

Solutions?

Got some slight 'wiggle' and ' bounce' in the steering at high speeds but not excessive. Tight in curves.

At my age, this is prolly ' it' for me. Calendar says Old man, brain says young guy:)

Thanks for the help
Yeah old guy here as well. So, the wheels your bride got, were you able to identify them? Part number? are they ford wheels? If oe, please post some photos. Love to know the specs on the wheels.

The limiters go on each side of the electric steering rack to limit wheel travel on both left and right turns. All S197's with factory 18" wheels or larger have them from the factory. The OEM Ford limiters require you disassemble your inner tie rods but the aftermarket ones just clip on. You will have experiment with how many you need on each side to stop rubbing at full lock with the "clip on" ones.

I've replaced my inner's and never saw any limiters in there. New inner's didn't come with any, and I didn't install any.
You have them if your tires don't rub on full lock. They would be inside the rack I guess. The OEM ones are complete rings and are black.

Having issues with the limiters, ordered from the dealer as link provided only had quantity one.

I got the inner off and started on the right side of the car. Photo below

The restrictor is too small to go over the output shaft of the EPAS box. Looking for guidance from anybody.

Is it rubber? Can you stretch it over the shaft? does the outside diameter fit in the hole in the box? If so it is meant to go in there I would imagine. I have never installed one. You will only restrict the wheel one direction with one.

Edit:After some research it appears that EPAS boxes do not use that OEM restrictor and they are for the old style hydraulic racks. Believe it or not there are different Ford part #s for 17" racks and 18" racks so the restrictors are built into them. It is possible that the aftermarket C shaped restrictors will work but I would check with seller first. It seems ridiculous to need a whole new rack to change wheel size or put up with rubbing your wheels when you turn too far.

Where did you find that information? I slept on the issue and believed it is an interference fit, so plan is today to measure and find a way to install them.

What part numbers did you find for both racks?

Please let me know so I can get this worked out before the new wheels come back from refinishing.

You can give it a try since you have one but if I were you I would order these. You don't need to take apart the inner rod ends since they just snap on AND you can do both left and right sides. Plus you can "tune" the amount of restriction to the amount you need to stop the rubbing.

*Someone just posted a guide to installing the Ford restrictor on our cars. You are right it is a tight fit. You need to force it on using a nut and bolt.

Thanks, All. I went with oem rear sway bar with new poly bushings and links. Got the subframe stiffer and k brace from DHR and changed out the rear control arms. It is night and day. Hugs the road with no noticeable harsh ride, if anything rides better. And with the DHR I can use the OEM convertible brace under the trunk. KBB shocks,, not lowered B/C potholes speed humps and old hips:), Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 on 18 chrome bullet tires, ( like the classic look) whiteline sway bar and links and bushings on front and changed out the tie rods to GT so prevent rubbing.

I think, hope I am done. I would like a functional roll bar, not racing -not called a carrot top for nothing and since my grandson will probably get this later. I found some that will need to be altered some since I want it to look 'normal" and want to keep the rear seat. but may just go with the styling bar.

Thanks, again for all the help. This site is awesome.
