Wasn’t sure where to post this, so sorry if this is the wrong spot.

Who’s in Texas and what shops do you trust to work on your car? I am looking for recommendations for speed shops in Central Texas. Dallas/Ft Worth isnt too far a drive, but Houston is a haul. Really looking for personal experiences, as Google reviews only tell so much and can be misleading.

I’ve got a list of “small jobs” that are adding up and I’ll never get to myself. Nothing major. But the car will need a new tune when a couple items are checked off the list.

My car was worked on by Precision Mustang Performance. They used to be out in Forney but now the owner, Noah, has a shop behind his house. He did a bunch on my car including the tune, definitely worth the call.

You mentioned central Texas but not what type of work you want done. Check out:
* Esses Racing, www.EssesRacing.com
* John Long, Automotive-Specialist.com and AutoSpecRacing.com
* HD Motorsport, HDMSTX.com

I know it's a haul for you, but Triangle Speed in Orange, Texas is worth a look. Been around forever and lots of high end builds go there.

Bumbera’s in Sealy does good work.

Thank you all for the replies. I apologize for not responding back here, I was not able to access internet for a while. Let’s just say “fuck the system” and leave it at that.

Details of work I need done coming up

Parts to be installed:
-Throttle body, heard it’s a PITA to correctly swap the actuator from old to new.
-Lightning MAF housing and sensor, recommended by KenneBell, needs a couple wires spliced.
-Heat exchanger upgrade/swap
-Rear UCA replaced
-Bung drilled and wires run for wideband
-And finally, it’ll need to be tuned for the new MAF and throttle body

Also considering Ford Racing cams, but I’m getting mixed answers from different sources. Some say they’re good for 20-25whp, but then I’ve heard that cams shouldn’t be used with forced induction. I have no real knowledge on the topic, so any help there would be appreciated. Might just make that another thread

After talking to a few shops on the phone, I’m leaning strongly towards Bumbera’s.

Any Texas guys here who have dealt with GearHeads Performance near Ft Worth? They almost had the job, we had all the quotes done and all. They said to call when all parts were onhand. I called 4 times, each time told “I’m buried in work, let me call you back.” There won’t be a 5th call. I mean, it’s only around $6-7k parts and labor, their loss

Triangle will tell you the same thing probably. They have been busy with the street outlaw production. And they get top dollar for their work. And they seem to be not really interested in 3v builds anymore. I've been a customer for nearly 13 years. They basically blew me off last time we did (tried to do) business. If I was back in Texas I might would take the job on. But Beaumont/Lumberton is a haul for you.

Seems to be a common theme. Lots of shops favoring coyote builds. I mean , I get it, much easier to make big pretty numbers for advertising. Sarcasm aside, I really wish I had a 4v. The amount of money I’ve spent on this 3V would have made a badass Coyote

Finally got an email response from a shop, and I’m not sure I want to take it there after reading the first sentence. I can see it now, I drop my car off and it sits for weeks before it’s touched, months before I get it back. Because it’s not a sexy new S550

“Hi Ken, we typically do not work on the older cars anymore. can you send me a pic under the hood so we can see what we are working with. I can quote you on the parts installation. as far as the tuning goes we start the price at $1200 for that year and mods. this is assuming there is no issues”

Starting to get frustrating. Once they read or hear “2010 4.6” via email or phone all interest is lost. Is the money not the same? Might just ship it back to the California shop that did my Kenne Bell install

Keep looking… a true Performance shop will work on anything.

They don’t want to work on 3V, then don’t give them Your business/money $$$$.

Another you could try is TrueStreet in McKinney, they did the tune on my Foxbody a few years back, I’m sure they still probably work on most things.

What the actual fuck??? I just don't get it. Does driving a 3V turn your money brown?

It’s very strange to me

Definitely. All these telling me this, will never have my future business.

Thanks, I’ll look them up

So, it’s come to this. The car is headed to Kurgan Motorsports in GA. 900 miles each way in the race car is gonna be love/hate, my back will hate me, but 100% certain I’ll be happy with the work. Bob tuned my car back in 2020. Its sad to see so many Texas shops being so picky about the jobs they take.
