Well, got the new engine fired up on Saturday! Took a while to get it started and I think it's because it flooded a bit so I had to do the damn foot to the floor start. Made sure I got my foot off the gas fast so it wouldn't rev to the moon on the start of a new engine.

Un-eventful and kind-of long video from my cell phone. Had to sit the phone on the end of my radiator once I got out of the car so nothing much to look at.

Here is a very short vid with it idling...

Drives pretty good for a very very tame break-in tune from Lito. I put the biggest pulley edelbrock makes for the blower on it, 4", so it only makes 6-7 psi of boost (would be less if I didn't have the 10% overdrive balancer on it).

I'm going off the recommendations from my friend Steve who built the engine as well as Lito....Kind of a mix between hammering it from the get-go and being mild. I'm basically making sure I vary rpms and from time to time getting into boost but not for any extended periods of time. Also getting the rpms up in the 4000-5000 range and letting the engine brake.

Definitely!!!!!!!

Oh what a feeling when it fires up! Congrats.

Absolutely..... a mix of nervousness, relief and excitement!

sounds similar to what he told me.

for the drive home my instructions were to cruise and vary RPMs, every so oftern (15-20 mins IIRC) run it from 2000-6000 slowly and 2000-6000 at WOT, then cruise again.

good luck with it

Thanks.

Just need to get an alignment done after putting the new k-member in and I have to get some dyna beads to balance my front skinnies. Art was kind enough to give me some KVR front rotors when I purchased the block from him and the hubs must be a little thinner compared to my last rotors so the weights to balance the rims are hitting my calipers. The dyna beads are ceramic beads that you pour into the tire through the valve stem and they dynamically balance the tire/rim internally. The guy who built my engine uses them in his dragsters skinnies and swears by them.

Plenty of places that sell them by me so hopefully I can pick up 4oz of them on my way home from work today.

Congrats on getting her back up and running. I take it your going to run the 10.0 class next season?

No idea...Don't know what kind of power it's going to make or what the car is going to run. I have taken about 80 lbs out of the front of the car which will help plant the rear tires.....did a tubular k-member, tubular radiator support, cut out the front steel bumper bar, converted to manual brakes and deleted the abs module.

The problem with running in the 10.0 class is that I technically will need a flexplate shield, blanket around the trans, aftermarket axles and c-clip elims and that all takes money. The build cost me more than I expected so I may have to just keep the power turned down until I can afford those other things.

I hear you on the money thing! I'm doing the 4R70W now since I killed the 5R55. I think I'm done chasing numbers and going to try and enjoy the car.

Congrats on the rebuild. Love the compression. Is the stroke stock?

My old 3.75 kellog stroker crank from my last engine. Can't wait until I get some mileage on the thing so the tune can be more aggressive. Right now Lito has it way detuned for break-in..something like 12-13 degrees of timing at WOT but I'm only going WOT for very short bursts.

The rain is driving me nuts too because there is no way I'm going to be doing WOT bursts on wet roads on my nearly bald drag radials
