I ordered a rental of the timing chain wedge tool on Thursday from freedomracing, but it didn't get here on time. It was guaranteed delivery for today but fucking usps sucks ass and didn't deliver it. I needed to put phaser lockouts to try and fix my clanking noise and finalize my tune for the turbo. Who has used other things to hold the chain in place? I've already searched and saw that some people used ?hoses?. Do I just jam it down till it gets stuck? What other methods have you guys used. I would like to wait for the tool, but I had already paid for overnight shipping of the lockouts and bolts from bbr, and I only have sundays to do anything. I don't want my car to be down another week.

Thanks
Ernest

Get some garden hose and fold it in half. Or zip tie the phaser to something on the hood, or have someone you trust hold the chain...

The thing is that I have to remove the phasers to open them and install the lockouts. When I put my cams in, I had a friend hold the phaser up as hard as he could until I got the cam bolted in, but since I'm removing the phaser, I have to let the chain kinda hang.

Oh true, I didnt think about that. I dunno man, Ive heard of a few people using the garden hose trick. Or you could always take the front cover off, it doesnt take that long.

When you have a turbo in there it does lol.
Ill just try the hose trick and maybe have someone hold the two sides of the chain that go over the phaser and ill try and disassemble the phaser really quick.
