tire size?

I have a shelby gt and it came with 18 inch wheels im not sure how wide they are probably 8 inches, the tires on there are 235/50= horrible, what is the widest size of tire that I can put on the car?

the 18 inch wills are 8.5 inches wide. i ran 275/40/18's on the back of mine with 245/45's on the front with zero issues.

the only problem i see running a 275 on a 8.5" wheel is that in the corners the side wall will give a little (becuase of where the bead sits on the wheel in reference to the tread of the tire). in other words it looks really fat. i would stay with a 255 or 265, just depends on the make of tire your interested in and if you will be taking this car to the road course. if not, then go ahead do the 275s to get that nice fat look i am sure your desiring.
