The FPS genre goes though that though. This is all to the best of my memory of some console and some PC shooters lol

Look at Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, and Duke Nukem 3D. Essentially they were all the same, it was start with a pistol, find as many big ass guns as you can and blow enemies to pieces, find keys and solve puzzles. Wolfenstein started it, Doom upped the creepy gore factor, then Duke brought the attitude and gore.

Next big thing was WWII shooters, again most of the time, it was start with a pistol and a good chunk of them you could carry as many weapons as possible.

Then came Halo and changed FPS forever, you could only carry two weapons, the 3D was amazing multiplayer was intense and insane(hooking up a few TVs was a blast, many many hours doing that haha) Halo kind of brought in the "shield" system that almost every FPS uses now.

Then came COD4 and then modern military shooters were all the rage. the controls, the perks, the weapons, being able to choose stuff to fit how you played, the customization it was all new.

and here we are now, waiting for the next big trend, the FPS genre goes in spurts where 1 game does it right, everyone follows untill the next big one comes out.

At least thats my opinion on the matter lol

so true, i still play wolfenstein (the og) doom 1 such fun games. its funny you mention the changes never have sat down adn thought about the whole halo shield changing fps games.

we did good tonight. Ryan was hammered, and the rest of us looked like an elite fighting force.
