MR.GASKET 6717 TORQUE CONVERTER NUTS FORD (6717) Are these compatible with a 4.6 three valve 5r55S transmission? I bought a set back a month ago and went to fit them today and they are a thou smaller internally measuring on the Vernier callipers. They will start on the threads but are defo feel too tight to turn. The old nuts run up by hand on the same convertor stud. Any info I see online confirms they are correct? or are they meant to be really tight to run up the threads? the new nuts have flanges where the old nuts dont if that helps answer my question?

If the torque converter nuts are the same style like the pinion nut for example, you cannot turn the new nut on fully - by hand , because they are self secure nuts.. once used, the little "dip " at the very beginning of the nut is "gone " ... as a result you can turn the used nuts by hand.

Thanks Brasil, I thought about that as the old nuts look soft and slightly deformed but hard not knowing anything about the type of nuts they are supposed to be. I will take a second look at them to see if I spot what you're explaining. I was very concerned about stripping threads as I foolishly didn't try them on the studs before putting the transmission in. From my mechanical experience they feel way too tight even for self secure nuts as I have used them before. I spotted another set without flanges that look more like mine from Ford so I ordered them today. I have no idea if they are going to be a better fit as there's no spec on them apart from a part number. There's only two options out there that I've found so some of the two hopefully has to fit.

Thanks 86GT, do they install dry? I have some ARP grease left over to make me feel more confident about not damaging the threads if its safe to use it.

I recently put a TCI convertor on my 2010
The nuts TCI sent with the Torque Converter were a different pitch than the studs on the Torque converter or the adapter plate.

..I would not use grease. Because when you torque them down, the grease alters the torque. So at the end you are stripping the threads... perhaps

The other set of Ford convertor nuts arrived this morning and I am a lot happier about the fit, they only start to lock as the stud passes through the top of the nut. I know for sure now Mr Gasket nuts are are a different thread or pitch. The ford nuts contain no info about thread size pitch etc.
you will see Flanged info on the Chinese nuts on the back of the pack but it makes no relevance to me?

I'm reasonably sure mine were 10mm 1.0 pitch. At least that is what the measurement were pointing to. -BP

I measured out the new sets of nut and the Ford nuts were a thou bigger in I'd than the Chinese nuts also the Chinese nuts were 14mm socket size compared to the Ford nuts that were 15mm socket size. I see no difference in the thread size or pitch comparing the two.

As crazy as it could be, what brand convertor is it? Could be an off brand with different thread pitch

3/8-24 tpi threads and 10mm 1.0 pitch are very close in appearance - I struggle with these a lot . Especially when mixing brake parts and calipers.

...as we can see the nuts came form Cologne / Germany. And the sticker states made in Germany also.. I doubt that these nuts are " inch nuts". Metric makes more sense ... because of the origin.

I haven't a clue 86GT as i didn't inspect it when the transmission was out but I suspect its the original factory installed unit.

Absolutely no data available on these brasil and the ford website was vague too which I thought was strange but the two types I have are the only two I could find on the web as I have said previously, just glad that the Ford ones fitted.

DO NOT OVER THINK IT....

:):):):).... Looks like you are doing everything right... Like the German's said, GUD' N' TITE'!!!... lol... Use a torque wrench and a little blue loc-tite if you want, people make themselves crazy over something that would take the car to flip to break...
