I still have some debugging to do (more on that later) - so I'll hold off on the full description with pics and such...

First - as I mentioned over the in the spec supertwin thread - the 1100 ft-lb clutch is a light switch... I expected it to a degree, but it is definitely harsh/too-harsh for street use - perhaps I should put on the perelli's and just let them spin NASCAR style (the MTs just bogged me down)?

The clutch was a pretty significant distraction from the trans - I was having to be careful about where I went - to make sure I wasn't going to get stuck in traffic and hold people up... leaving from a light at this point is like driving a stick for the first time and unless I am willing to do a 1/4 mile burnout - "more gas" isn't an option (it might help if the engine had some more torque...).

Steeda shifter is astonishingly stiff... A lot of work rowing through the gears - I am hoping that losens up much like the pro5.0 and GT versions I found all the gears, but 5th is definitely hard to find with such a stiff shifter...

Now the problem...
Something is loose (at least I hope so) - I get a NASTY resonant vibration in 4th. I can hear a touch of it in the other gears - but it is a hard metal-on-metal virbration/rub...

Did a quick pass underneath on the lift and did not see anything obvious - it was pretty hot under there, so I am letting it cool off...

Here's hoping its something simple - it really sound ominous...

I hope the fix is something simple.
Well, I found nothing loose - went over every bolt (I used a torque wrench on just about everything the first time - as I am still getting used to all this aluminum)...

However, I did find the the Triax lever moves up and down almost 1nch...

When it is at its lowest, it is very close to not only the driveshaft as I described in a prior thread (and made adjustments to for clearance), it is very close to the top of the trans...

Going for a testdrive to see if lifting it up (the shifter - not sure why it is moving like that!!!!) gets rid of the noise...

I wounder when Pro5.0 and others will come out with shifters for the GT500, I would like to maybe have some options when I put one on. As that is at least a year in the future I'm hoping that there will be other options as the Triax isn't sounding like a good one so far.

I was thinking the same as Zman on the options.
options are good...

Drive 2:
I am getting better with the supertwin, but if you want a way to beat the hell out of your transmission - this is the right tool for the job... For a DD street car, I definitely would not consider the 1100ft-lb version - the GT500/FR500 clutch is going to be a much more pleasant ride... I got this clutch in prep for what I am going to do to the car in the coming months...

I would presume the 900 ft-lb version is much nicer for the street but I have no way at this point to compare it obviously... On the bright side, there is no doubt that the twin disc allows for a nice easy pedal and unquestionable holding power...

Leaving from a stop, I need to be at 2K rpms and slip the heck out of it (there is just that one little spot that lets you do that - I found it this time...)

If I am not paying attention, I even get a bog going to 2nd...

I think the vibration is the trans groaning when I am in 4th at too low of a speed... I realized that my tune does not have correction either for my 3.73 rear or my 26" tires - so my speedo is way off and was reading ~32mph when that happened in 4th (I was rowing through the gears on purpose)...

Still looking for causes on that outside the trans - I just don't see anything that is even close to touching - no rub marks... I think this is the noise the trans makes when you bog it down (the 3650 makes similar noise in 1st if you starve it for torque when getting moving - the noise is just at a lower frequency than the 6060 noise I am hearing... )

Tri-ax is loosening up, but the up-down movement does not make me happy... Getting used to R "waaaaay over there" and not putting it in 6th when you want to back out is going to take some doing...
