Trade for a Shelby?

I'll have to verify, my stang isn't quite stock anymore, but we'll still find out. How do the S550's do compared to 11-14 Coyotes? I do like the way they look, but the irs and added weight aren't for me.

You do realize a base S550 GT is only 60-75lbs heavier than a base 2011-2014 GT right...

Drive one and you won't have one single complaint about the IRS. I had 3 S197s and I love the way my S550 feels planted compared to the roller skate feeling on the S197s I had. It's no comparison. Repeating what you hear from people who haven't driven one just makes you look uneducated.

Oh not to mention the fact that I have beat my friend in his 13 GT that has a CAI, tune, and Nittos while I on stock tune and tires. He's not a bad driver either.

Fucking thank you dude... I drove my buddies the other day and I was like fuck... I think I may of bought the wrong car... Of course he has some nice bells and whistles on it now, but shit...

I'm waiting to see someone say "impossible." The S550 weighs a ton more. IRS is for turn racing, not straight line racing... I love my S197 Shelby, but that GT350 is miles ahead of this platform...

Back on track: 5.0 GT's are faster then GT500's because they are only driven by people who dont know how to drive therefore they are slow. Forget the fact that they both share the same chassis and can accept the exact same parts/mods. That would require common sense and we threw that out awhile ago. Also negate the fact that the driver is probably the BIGGEST factor in a race all things being equal. Is that about where we left off on this thread derail?

This would be a fun comparison: 11-14 Coyote vs 11-12 GT500 with the same driver and good DRs.

The OP may not care about the thread but I'm curious how a the above comparison would pan out. If I find an 11-12 GT500 for sale locally, I'm going for a test drive, then immediately going for a test drive in a Coyote. Then when I drive home in my 3V, I should have a good sense for the improvements.

I haven't driven or ridden in an S550, so I would be uneducated, that's why I inquired. I just guessed that because of my experience with my old 04 Cobra that the IRS was at least 100lbs heavier, and the drag strip would equal broken half-shafts. not knocking them at all. Just buying an older car affords me more money to get the mod party started is all.

It's been a while, but trading in the irs for a straight axle from that cobra saved more in the neighborhood of 140lbs. on that particular car.

Well, I agree that OP probably doesn't care at this point, but here's my $0.02.

I love my 5.0. I don't drag race it, but I do autoX it, do occasional HPDEs in it, and I certainly don't baby it when I am DDing. It is stupid fun for me, since I don't need a 650 hp DD to have fun in. The drivetrain is stock, but it does have full suspension mods, a good set of wheel/tires, and a sweet sounding Roush exhaust.

That being said, if it weren't going to cost me twice as much as the value of my car now, I'd trade for an '11-12 Shelby in a New York second. People just love a Shelby. LOL You get instant recognition at car shows and cruise ins. Not that I am attention wh0re, but it is nice to get it occasionally.

For instance, a good friend of mine has a black '13 GT500. He spent at least twice as much for his car as I did for my little '13 5.0 GT. But to look at the cars side by side, 95% of the earth's population would never know it. It's pretty much stock, he doesn't mod it, besides waxing and polishing the heck out it. And he wouldn't be caught dead putting it on a road course or probably even at autoX course. But at a car show or cruise in, he gets crazy attention becuase it's a Shelby.

I do get a little bit of Shelby envy at those times...

Owned both, you can't compare the two together they are completely different animals. Any short comings the Shelby has vs the 5.0 and vise versa can be cured using aftermarket parts. However the Shelby will always be a Shelby and is better set up to handle boost.

You're right though. I'll stop. I have no more insight to offer the OP. He has a solid car. I upgraded from a 3V to a Shelby and would do it again as that is a huge upgrade...

F-150 is being paid for in cash, so I may trade for a Shelby since I'll still only have one car payment to deal with.

There's been some really compelling argument for both sides. I agree big-time with TGR, I'm not a Quarter-Mile Master, or a Road Course Rambo; I just want an impressive amount of HP/TQ and to be able to toy with Vettes and the like. I, too, get Shelby envy every time I see one.
