Can just the Bellhousing be replaced easily,or does trans need complete disassembly?

Replacing the Bell Housing is not hard once the transmission is out of the car. Most important thing to do is make sure the Input Shaft and Cluster Shaft are shimmed properly.

The shims will be located inside the bellhousing. There will be 2 Bearing Cups with Races in them. The shims go under the race. As for proper shimming, it is a very critical thing. Too loose can cause issues. Too tight can bun things up.

Call Promotion Powertrain at 954-771-5575 and speak with Ricky. Migt be able to help you out with a misc shim pack.

You will need a misc shim pack as nitrostang said, to shim it correctly or what I think is the easiest way, install the new bellhousing without any shims. place dial indicator on both the MS and CS and take end play measurements, get a shim that gives you the required tolerance put it in, and then check again. You should have between .001"-.005" end play on both the MS and CS. Before you take the measurement though, spin the input shaft over a few times and lightly tap on it once or twice with a soft blow mallet it will seat everything to get a true reading, do the same after the shims are installed before taking end play measurements.

Why would I need to re shim if I am just replacing the forward front bell housing.I take it off as it is cracked & put on the exact same replacement part?

On the 3650 the bell housing is part of the case. You would need to transfer the entire transmission from the cracked case to a new case.

Just like skwerl said, it's not your normal bell housing that you can swap for a different motor or such, the bell housing is part of the transmission. It's not as difficult as it may seem though, if you're just swapping housings. pull one housing, remove shims, replace housing, check end play and shim accordingly.

I actually just did this a couple of months ago ... my brother dropped my trans and it cracked pretty bad. its not as hard as it looks... I just stood it right up unscrewed the screws took of the throw out bearing and it pooped right off... made sure not to touch anything on the inside...lol sealed it right back up with silicone and screwed the new bellhousing in ...let it dry up and replaced my fluid will the tranny was out.... so far I have over 10k miles and it shifts better than ever...wish I had pics to show you but its actually pretty simple...

I think you can indeed unbolt just the bellhousing on the 3650. It is not installed two-piece like a T56, but it does come apart.

Because a different Bell Housing is a different casting and there is no guarantee that it is 100% the same.
