It doen't really matter what brand gas you are buying. What does matter is you want to make sure you are actually getting 93 octane gas. Buy your gas from a large corporate owned station and you won't have any problems.

I always use Shell 93, is that cheap? I didn't know there was cheap gas. Where are the non-cheap ones?

When I was racing a pump gas only class for a while with a procharged car I had the best luck with ultimate BP and Chevron 93, Shell was one of the worse as far as how much timing I could run without detonation.

Cheap really doesnt mean anything, where I live it all pretty much costs the same but certain brands do have different additives. Of course this all varies with different areas and weather blends so your results may vary. I would just be wary of some stations. I tried Weigels (fairly large chain around here) in this car a while ago and you could hear the pinging, I pulled 5 degrees of timing out and ran that tank out as quick as I could. Was it one bad loadm was it sitting in the ground too long, fuel delivery company screwed up or was the owner cheating - I have no idea but I wont try it in this car again. I run their 87 in my hemi pickup and dont have any issues so who knows.

Same here.

I used only shell when I had my motor built last year for 2 months straight. Had to replace my springs and valves and have my heads cleaned up from all the crap that stuck to them.

Never used shell again and been great! Mobile for me

Dang that sucks. I have heard they use a lot of detergents in their fuel. We just got a mobile station here locally. I'll give them a try.

LOL. Okay.

So what is the problem in your opinion?

I cant believe these people are riding your ass again.. You and litghtblade crack me up. You guys try to help and there are always people giving you jabs.. haha

It feels like the black lung thread all over again.

When to worry about this TSB:

1) if you have a 2011-12 stang
2) You have issues and mods
3) if you are denied fix from ford.

All dealers have to scrutinize any warranty issues.. That should not surprise anyone.. even with legit issues unless there is a mass issue it can be tough. Thats just how things are for ALL car dealers. Some people get it fixed easy others dont..

I was upset a little when Ford had a TSB issue they would not fix on my car, but it was past the warranty. The good thing is that they had a TSB and showed how I could fix it.

read the whole thing.

it doesnt matter who tunes it. if you hammer the motor they will know its been re-flashed at some point. and if youve done ANYTHING to alter the car from factory stock, your warranty is history. this TSB is Ford's authorization in writing to allow their technicians to tell you to go fuck yourself.

Do any of u realize, this has been the policy forever? they just reissued it. Probably because so many peoeple wanting something for free after their one mistake of putting a faulty tune in. I have been at a ford mechanic since 97. I promise u, this TSB is nothing new. U change something and its cause's a failure, guess what u pay!

So Shell sucks? I've always thought they were a good brand.

Not saying that, I am just saying at the time it didnt work as well on a supercharged car tuned to the edge. I would just avoid the smaller low volume stations if I was running an aggressive 93 tune.

Yeah, if you want detonation

And who are you to know this is all that there is?

As I understand it, there were/are 3 or 4 Coyote motors that have had the #8 cyl issue. I heard this from what I would consider a very reliable person while at the NMRA Atco event. As some know that event was marred by rain, there was a lot of time to sit and talk, so this topic did come up. That was in April, so certainly a few more cases may have happened, further, IMO Ford would not have issued a TSB so quickly fir just a few cars. But that is a guess.

just goin off of the amount of people posting about it on different forums

From the internal Ford communication papers they are reporting over 10 cars.
more then 10? anymore specifics? ok so more then 10 but less then what? 100? even still thats not bad of a ratio of cars blowin up #8... 99% of which were most likely tooned

If you put a tune in the car, then you have to accept responsibility if something breaks. I have accidentally put 87 octane in the car on one occasion, and you DEFINITELY tell. It sounds like pebbles/sand bouncing around in a paint can. Luckily, I was on a semi-long road trip, and I just set the cruise until I burned the entire tank.

idk how it is in other states, but here in the DFW the gas is 10% ethanol. i wonder if thats taken into account when a tuner sends a tune via email to someone in another state.
not all gas is the same.

10% is pretty much standard for the country now. going up to 15% IIRC

I would hope they do, but most places is 10% not into gas science but I am assuming more is bad?

Irrelevant. Ethanol is a higher octane than gasoline, so if anything, 10% ethanol would be a slightly higher octane than pure gasoline.

Regardless, fuel that is labeled as 93 octane must be a minimum of 93 octane. Often what happens is that, since ethanol is a higher octane content, gasoline distributors cut 90 gallons of 91 octane with 10 gallons of ethanol to create a 93 octane blend. This saves them money (which, by the way, they don't pass on to you), and lets them meet the 10% ethanol requirement.

Technically the more Ethanol in the fuel, the more detonation resistant it is. It will however lean out your a/f ratio slightly. Being supercharged, I am looking forward to more ethanol in standard pump gas. Now that I have meth injection, I'm not so worried about it though.

Not really. Most modern fuel systems seem able to handle relatively high amounts of ethanol. Older cars... that's another topic.

Why would it? 93 octane at the pump is 93 octane at the pump, regardless of how much ethanol is present.
