dumping the exhaust altogether

That's an appealing thought. One that I will share with the
tuners tomorrow (sunday), when dynotuning starts. The car is not used for transportation anymore and the main focus this year will likely be weight loss. Tuners have been adjusting the idle this week prior to dynotuning. Brief vid from a couple of days ago.

Thanks guys. As this will rarely see the street other than a weekend warrior, I really don't care how it sounds. What I care about is performance and weight.

In addition to the weight, Greg says his TT saw about a 40 rwhp gain when he dumped the exhaust...:thumb:

I'm doing it regardless of how it sounds...:leghump:

i had open exhaust for a while when i had my turbocoupe. was nice at idle, but got crazy loud when i got into the gas good. sounded like a diesel with a 5" exhaust...i wont ever do it again....but on the plus side, it kept every honda and acura from trying to race me all the time...

Just be forewarned. The set I had started leaking after a year or two. I took them off last summer. And at over $400, I'm not about to replace them anytime soon.

Did you have the dougs headers elec. cut outs? those come with a warranty. If you ever want a new set let me know and I can get you a pretty good price. You too Dex.

Here's a video of our Escalade running just an open downpipe with no exhaust. It came up on boost quicker that way. I drove it from MI to FL like this...

Rick - did you guys notice a HP gain when ditching the exhaust as well? Most of the blow through turbo set-ups I have seen picked up considerably dumping the exhaust.

Depends if the wastegate is internal or external. If it is internal it is going to pick up a lot more than an external. But both will pick up and will get a quicker spool time. I have a cutout on my car because I have saleen mufflers which are chambered and are more restrictive than the stock ones. And the difference can be felt @ the street between open and closed. I dont tune at the dyno though because the closest mustang dyno is @ the other side of the island and the rest are dyno jets. Going to a dyno with no load is just going for a print out because it will always get leaner @ the street and you gotta make up for it.
