i meant that the VCT will be an added expense in regards to additional tuning, VCT lockouts, etc. just like we have in the 3V's.

The VCT is reported to be "locked" during full throttle application. This is somewhat of a suprise to me as I assumed the wide poweband at full throttle was a result of moving around the IC and EO points to match the rpm.

Pistons, Rods, Whipple 2.9L and some C16.. That's all the upgrading you'll need. ;-)

I wish that Ford would offer an option to upgrade to better pistons and rods when you buy a new Mustang. That would be awesome.

I'm going to "go out on a limb" and assume that it is because they are a Whipple distributor.

As far as I know kb hasn't listed anything for the 5.0. Whipple already has something in the works. (Shelby gt350)

why a whipple 2.9l vs a KB 2.6 or a twin turbo setup?

We have always run Whipples on our cars. It's the best twin screw supercharger available. That and Whipple is like family to us and you know the saying "Family First".

Ford Racing and Whipple (and Shelby) are pretty well hooked up, so I'd be surprised if Kenne Bell has even seen an '11 GT yet, let alone had a chance to develop anything for it.

I'm definitely considering a low boost whipple for my 2011. Just wanna see some durability test first lol.

Even if someone throw in pistons and rods, its still cheaper than building a 3V.

5.0 will come out with killer heads and valvetrain and we all know about the forged crank.

Last night at Super Chevy in Las Vegas (we were invited to do a Chevy vs. Ford thing), on our first pass we ran 6.339 @ 231.44. John had to pedal the car twice because of tire shake and still ran that number (1.00 60-foot time). Last week at Fontana the car ran .983, .986 and .987, 60-foot times. Weight is 2470 pounds with driver.

Yes, 52 psi, and yes, the compression ratio is 11.25:1. With 4-cams it's easy to do and not have detonation. The problem is that most mod motor racers set their cars up as if it was a pushrod (single cam) motor. Our total valve lift is so low that you would laugh about it, it's less than most street cams. The new 2011 Mustang 5.0L 4-cam engine has computer controlled camshaft timing. This means that you can set the engine up one way for the launch (when the boost is only 40 psi) and change the cam timing as the boost comes on. And the intake cams and the exhaust cams can be controlled INDEPENDENTLY from each other with the Motec computer.

We have these engines in our shop, thanks to Ford Racing. Right now our 4-cam 4.6L is making about 9 horsepower per cubic inch on gasoline. Wait until we turn the Coyote loose. The potential from this engine is unbelievable. When you see this engine disassembled, you would swear that it's out of a Formula 1 racecar, and it's a production piece. The computer controlled cam timing in the 2001 Mustang is set so conservative that the engine can make about 410 hp and still get almost 30 mpg, and be 100% emissions legal. The headers are full tube race headers, not those crappy shortys. The OEM throttle body is 80mm. I would not be surprised to see a sharp guy with an SCT tuner get 500+ hp out of this engine just be reflashing the OEM computer, with NO mods to the engine.

^ +1, going off of what others have said and the currently disclosed Shelby GT350 specs, F/I can also be used but low boost only unless the motor is built with forged rods/pistons.


Because of the new high flowing factory headers, longtubes are said to only yield 15 HP on the 5.0, but I thought that s197 longtubes only produced 10-20rwhp on N/A setups, so I don't see how that's bad.

But will long tubes sound better? I'm not a fan of the 'bullet' sound...too blattey for me!

After using something other than a laptop to listen to the dyno vids, there seems to be a lot of intake 'throb' in the overall sound and a funky header pulse to the exhaust.

Now I'm left wondering what she will sound like 'opened' up via a CAI and non-factory exhaust...
