V-Bands... How the blip do they work?

Ok- Until unpacking the turbo kit I had never seen a v-band. Damn thing looks like it just clamps around the two pipes? How do you make sure they pipes are snug if you cant see em and how do you snug the damn thing down without the pipes coming undone every time. Sorry for the newbie question, anxious to get this done, frustrated by a clamp-Sigh. Time for a beer. All help appreciated. Pictures/diagrams welcome.

The v groove on the inside of the band forces the 2 pipe ends snug together as you tighten the clamp. Vbands are for exhaust, t-bolts are for coldside silicone couplers.

Well Im a moron. Realized it wasnt working because I was using a tband and not a v-vand. Duh moment. Thanks Jeremy!
