as i reach new HP goals,i realize the VCT is not needed. here is what i know......

i need lockouts, they can be installed if i use a wedge tool and i have to remove the phasers to install much as would be done when doing cams.

tune must be modified....any one know what has to be modified? i have the proracer software but not really all that familiar withit yet.

i know the lockout question has been asked a ton of times, but i have not seen the tune question asked or answered......

i have also seen VCT block off plates? any info on these?

In prp the vct control is in system switches.

is it just a single switch? any modifications to the timing or anything else to get it to work correctly with out the VCT....Im very new to the prp, so forgive my ignorance!

Is this your plan to get rid of your ticking noise ? I've thought about doing the same if so.

I'm running vct until a phaser goes, then I will install lockouts and turn it off in the tune.

I too am learning prp. IIRC my tuner said it just takes setting the switch to 0 but the lockouts have to be installed otherwise the cams will hunt all over.

My tuner sold his business a few months ago and I decided I'd learn prp instead of letting a new tuner learn on my car.

Have you signed up for the sct support forums?

I just installed the V10 oil plates in place of the VCT controllers and they seems to be working fine. I fired my car up Friday night after replacing most of the timing parts and drove it around yesterday and no issues.

I replied in your thread about your oil pump with the part #'s for them as well as the thread they have been being discussed in for your reference.

Me too, as soon as my lockouts arrive I plan to replace my limiters. Hopefully that will get rid of the ticking.

I had ticking in my engine even with the lockouts and it turned out to be failing lash adjuster(s). I just replaced all of them along with the majority of timing components and it's nice and quiet.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread because we have another one for the ticking noise, but how did you know the lash adjusters were bad ? Did you notice anything visually when you pulled the old ones out ? I've replaced all mine and it didn't fix it. Good info on the lockouts. I will not go that route now. At least for me this is starting to narrow it down and I think I'm going to replace my chains and tensioner arms this week.

From my experience most of the ticking is actually from the injectors. Also after i built my motor and cams phaser limiters went in my car ticked bad with 5w20, went to 5w30 and it was alot better, currently running 10w40 as i wanted a little thicker hot and cold oil for the turbo. The only ticking i really have now is the 60lb injectors. For a test take some thick shop rags and wrap up all the injectors and you will be amazed at how much quieter the car is.

Here's what I replaced, hopefully I don't forget anything. I got it all from 19COBRA93 on here.

Crank chain sprocket, XL3Z-6306-AA $25.29
(2) 5W7Z-6268-AA Chain - Timing $43.88 each
(1) 4R3Z-6B274-BA Chain Guide - LH $14.29
(1) 4R3Z-6M256-CC Chain Guide - RH $12.58
(1) 1L2Z-6L253-AA Tensioner Arm - LH $14.29
(1) 1L2Z-6L253-BA Tensioner Arm - RH $14.29
(1) F6AZ-6L266-DA Tensioner - RH $53.23
(1) F6AZ-6L266-CA Tensioner - LH $53.23
(24) 5L1Z-6500-A hydraulic lash $6.31 each
(8) 4R3Z-9439-AA intake gaskets $7.92 each (I just did these since they were old, they are the gaskets under the intake manifold or in my case my E-force blower)
Front cover gasket, right 4R3Z-6020-BE $11.21
Front cover gasket, left 4R3Z-6020-DB $4.70
Front cover gasket, center 4R3Z-6020-EB $4.81
Front cover seal, XW4Z-6700-A $7.47

Other than these things I also replaced my valve springs with the comp 26113-24 ones and new valve seals which I got from a local guy. I don't have the part numbers for those unfortunately. I will say that the Freedom racing spring compressor tool worked great for doing the springs. I was nervous as hell doing this work since I've never worked on an engine but many people were quite helpful along the way, Paul(againstallodds1), Art(Rench), Billy(05Stroker), Mike Devlin who's the mechanic at Tillman speed and did alot of work on my car in the past. I hope I didn't forget anyone.

The diagnosis on my car that it was the lash adjusters was from a local engine builder/drag racer/mechanic who I'm friends with and listened to my car and said that was his opinion. I guess I should have recorded the sound before I did the work as a comparison for everyone.

Anyone in South Jersey who wants their car worked on by a good guy, look up Everett's Specialty Repair in Williamstown, NJ. He knows his shit and is a great guy!

All this lockout/limiter talk made me nervous. I spoke with Livernois today. They informed me that my combination of 20+lbs of boost, 26125 springs, and 127350 cams is a recipe for VCT failure. Since my engine is apart, I ordered lockouts from them today. Even though I hate to give up HP, it's better to be safe than sorry.

At those boost levels I doubt it's much if any power. If you want the most power out of it you should just get either the Paschal or BBR adjustable cam gears and degree the cams.
