Hey guys' just had my Vortech A/A intercooled unit installed and tune by ST a few weeks ago and finally got it down to the track last night. Except for one 7.8 run. I ran 7.7's the whole night. All of my 60ft's were 1.8's.

So what I'd like to know is this good, bad, or average?

The rest of you Vortech guys please post the following...
1/8 mile ET and 60ft time.
How much boost?
A/A or W/A intercooler?
Engine? Stock?
List any other supporting mods.

I ran a crappy 12.9 @ 109 w/ a crappy 2.09 60 ft. in warm humid weather, auto, no DR's, full street weight, no aftercooler, 9-10 lbs. of boost first time at the track with this car..

Leo... it was good to see you again at the track last night! :thumb: Congrats on the new best times, and if the weather is good in two weeks at Barona, I think you'll see those elusive 7.60s you were hunting last night!

BTW... I told you that you were quicker than that jellybean GTR!!

the biggest issue with the vortech and all centrig blowers is that when you shift, you loose your boost so you spend the amount of time building it back up. YOu will prob not see your full boost because of this.

My tip is powershift the hell out of it. Only way to keep boost I think without doing cams or a huge crank pulley.

Those are great times!! When I had my Paxton A/A intercooled I went a 7.50 but that was with a lot of other mods as well.

Quick question... I've got an auto tranny and right now I believe my tune is set to shift at 6000. If I bumped that up to 6200 or 6400 would that net me the extra tenth or two I'm looking for? Would I need to get it retuned if I did this? My goal is to be able to run 7.5-7.6 consistently. Not looking to go faster because I don't want to have to get a roll cage, harness, etc.

Thanks.

Ken-What other mods did you have? As you can see in my sig I've got most of the basic stuff.

I have an auto too and that is EXACTLy what I am dealing with..Its shifting too early, but thats the tune..Im sure your HP is still climbing like mine @ 6,000 rpm..What I am hoping for is to raise it quite a bit with cams..I am installing cams very soon, so that should mean a 6,500-6,800 redline, as well as a much higher shift point than I have now..commom sense would dictate that if it will be shifting at a higher rpm, then it wouldnt drop as low in the rpm range during a shift where we would lose boost..It should stay at a higher boost level after shifting, which should and will net better 1/4 times..

I was going to have my tuner re-tune it on Sunday during the dyno day, but its futile if we are going to do a whole new tune after the cams..But it is frustrating now shifting so damn soon..

Leo, I had my shift point set at 6250 for a long time... both NA and with the KB. You should definitely turn it up a little. :thumb:

BTW, the roll bar rule is 7.35 and under... so you have a ways to go.

I'll bump it up when I go to Barona then. Is the 7.35 at Barona? According the Race Legal website they require one for anything under 7.5.

Good times there:thumb: I can make some changes to the trans settings and definitley get you another tenth, maybe 2. Maybe when I come down to barona, we can make the changes. Congrats

Leo, with your automatic, shifting at higher rpms gets you into the next gear at higher rpms, thus usually in a better part of your power/torque curve. If you have a dyno graph and look at where you make the most torque, you'll see what I mean.
With the gear ratios in out auto trannies, shifting from 3rd-4th can really know down the engine rpms. That's not really an issue probably for you at 1/8 mi, but for the 1/4, it definitely is.

With your 4.10s, you probably also get through 1st and 2nd really fast. The shift points and rpms where shifts occur can be set in the tune and somewhat tweakable.

The NHRA rule is 7.35. RaceLegal is clueless... hahah. But they shouldn't mess with you if you sneak in a 7.4 occasionally. They didn't say anything to me until I was running consistent 7.2s and 7.1s.

Well good then as I have no intentions of getting a cage and all that other crap.

Funny story about the Q. Back in Sept 2006, I was running 12psi and running lots of 7.2s there. After 3 separate trips to the track (and about 50 runs), that is when they finally said something to me in Tech. So I pullied it down to 10psi, to keep it around 7.5s/7.6s. I kept it like that for Oct, Nov and Dec.

Then, one night in Jan 2007, the air was pretty good. My first 6 passes were at 10psi, but it was running in the 7.30s. I didn't want to pass up a rare chance at decent air there, so I went back to the pits, and stuck the 12psi pulley back on. I got in 9 more passes, at an average of 7.14, and a best ever (at the time) of 7.094 @ 98.68. They never said anything, and I went back to the 10psi pulley next time we went there.

I ran a 13.2 with 1.926 60 ft. ( First Time at Race track...Ever )

This was with no aftercooler, on 20 inch street tires, and it didnt help that it was 105 degrees out that day.

Car also has 4:10 Gears, and LT's. Driver mod probably had something to do with it as i was strugling with launching the car all day (Traction), but powershifting at 6200.

and 1/8 mile time was 8.48 thinking altitude may have also played a part Not sure of excact elevation but in ballpark of 3000ft.
