I'm gonna be doing a coolant flush to the stang in a few weeks. I would like to use coolant from Ford. I was poking around on the motorcraft website and there are a few choices to pick from. Just wanted to get an opinion from everyone on which one to use. Keep in mind my stang is a daily driver.

Thanks folks!!!!

Since I moved to Mustangs in 1998, I've been putting in whatever is the cheapest 100% Green/Yellow antifreeze I get at the autoparts stores. That's usually Prestone.

Not a single problem, as well as not paying extra $$ for a re-packaged Prestone (or other) with a Motorcraft name on it.

I've been told there's a difference between "gold" and "yellow" coolant, that the yellow will corrode the plastic parts of the coolant system. I haven't experienced any corrosion yet. As Ford dealers are the only place that carry the "gold" coolant that I've found so far, I refuse to spend that kind of money on coolant. I don't know about anywhere else, but they rape in Vegas for that shit, retarded dealership mark ups.

For the most part I run distilled water 70 / 30 yellow coolant mix. Prestone brand (get it on sale, the full concentrated stuff will last a few coolant changes). I also run Redline brand water wetter. With a 180* T-stat, my autometer gauge reads 175-180 tapped on the side of the block. The Livewire indicates cylinder head temps at 188-190. Almost 12-15 degree difference cooler vs. where I was on the factory coolant and T-stat.

The Ford gold is supposed to be a superior long life coolant. I think it's better to change it out every other year with Prestone than to go 5 years/150k. If the Ford gold was available at walmart I'd probably give it a try. I do believe it's a better product. The Whipple manual recommended it for the intercooler along with water wetter.

More important than the brand of coolant is using distilled water with that coolant imo.

Absolutely. I had a Chevy 1500 on it's last legs that I did a radiator swap on before I sold it because the rust was so bad. I flushed it every year (not by choice) and the coolant was always rust brown. Once that shit starts, it's nearly impossible to stop it.

When I was growing up all we used for water was the hose. South Dakota well water came out of it, lots of minerals. It was just accepted that a radiator would only last about as long as a battery back then (late 70s and early 80s). Coolants weren't as good then either.

Everything concerning cars is so much better now than back in the "good old days". Including what we know about taking care of them.

Anyone got any how to's on doing a coolant flush? Mine is only 6 years old with around 11000 miles on it, and I would really like to do it myself.

Bump. I think I'm going to remove the block drains and flush the system fresh water from the hose, fill with distilled water and Motorcraft coolant system flush, drive around for a bit or whatever the flush instructions dictate, let it all cool off, drain, flush, fill with distilled water and motorcraft gold. I'm probably going to finally get a vacuum fill device, mostly for my intercooler system as it's a pain in the ass.

^^ with only 11k on your car its still new. Not worth the money. Thats beer money right there!!! I use the Ford Gold in the F150 and the Stang. I flushed the 5.4 3V F150 @ 100k miles on it. I wanted to test what they stated about the 100k intervals. Still very clean.

Is the gold available at vatozone? Or do you have to pick it up from the stealership?

I've only ever seen it at the stealership. I never thought to ask Steve@Tasca if he sells it. Steve beats a dealer every time.

I use zerex g-05 and distilled water.

I use this too. Zerex G05 is the Ford spec gold. O Reillys has it. Its not always out in front though. My local store has it in the back, you have to ask for it.

Yup. Meets all fords specs and much less expensive. If you are prudent you can get it on sale for $14 a gallon.
