i think your nuts to drop the tank, your still going to have to deal with the same pump in the same hole once you get it out.you will have to drop the driveshaft and exhaust just to get it out.

I've tried to get the pump out a few times and it's just a BITCH. I attribute most of that to the fact that access to the pump area is partially blocked. I figure I can get it out easier without 20% of the access area being blocked. I guess I'll try one more time, and probably break all kinds of shit in the process. :)

Just take your time . It is a PITA but it will be faster then dropping the tank . Good luck.

use my DIY i posted on the last page, there is some tips in there about doing some of the stuff that people say is real hard, like setting the lock ring,if you use 2 different screwdrivers ,one on each side the lock ring will go in pretty easy. the access hole is not blocked too bad, trust me i dont think you really want to remove the whole tank,if i was that desperate i would think of shaving the metal out of the way first before i would drop the tank. you could use tin-snips to cut the metal back a little.

I saw your how-to; thanks very much for doing that. I consider the rest of the job a no-brainer, including the lock ring stuff. I just can't seem to get the pump assembly out of there without rubbing hoses against sharp metal, jacking up the sender unit (which is what I'm going in for in the first place), etc.

thump_rrr just put it over the top, though... I'm not buying a special torx driver for this bullshit. I'll cram my fat ass in the back seat for another afternoon.

Here's my other issue: the electrical connector is LOOSE. It's leaking gasoline fumes out into the world. And by "world," I mean my garage. So when it's out, I'm gonna have to figure out how to tighten that up. I would just swap out the hat with my spare, but I have -8 lines and I don't wanna have to drill that out. If you all have any guidance on what holds that connector air-tight, I'd appreciate it. My first impulse is to slather it with RTV, but I don't think they make anything fuel rated, so that would probably be stupid.

Well the good news is that I got it out of the car and it's NOT the sender. Measuring resistance across pins 2 and 4 shows 15 to 160 ohms, which is in spec.

I took the following pictures.

The cross-over tube was connected properly, but the bottom of that fitting had nothing on it. It's clearly missing this piece:

It didn't come with the kit, which I bought used from a forum member here. Anyone know where I can buy one? Ford doesn't sell them separately.

Dude, I sympathize with your problems. I am not in any way a mechanic but had hardly any problems installing my pumps. Good luck..

Thanks. It's a lot easier when you actually have all of the parts.

Progress is being made, though! I should have this (and the leaky electrical connector) resolved after a quick trip to the speed shop.

Lesson learned: you get what you pay for. $800 for the pumps, -8 braided lines, Aeromotive fuel rails, Y block, fittings, and two spare Ford GT pumps was a great deal, but I've had about a zillion dollars in headaches.

that is exactly what was happening with my car. when i would drop the basket into the tank that pice would dissconnect and i'd only use the gas on the drivers side. i used zip ties to hold it in place and put it back in very carefully. if the pice is missing all togather check the bottem of the tank it may be sitting there . but yes, that should be your problem. when i did this all my kit (lethal ultimate pro) had bigger lines going to 2 -6 fittings making it ALOT bulkyer than yours. it was a pain in the ass as i took it in and out about 8 times in a day or two. but on the bright side you get better every time lol

fyi, i think your stock basket should have that part on it you can use also.

Interesting, I seem to remember that my fuel transfer hose had a green clip on it that "clicked" and locked it in place when I put it on..

It has something very similar that would do the job, I just can't get it off. I went looking for some of that orange-ish flexible plastic hose, but couldn't find any. I also bought some 3/8" fuel line, but I don't wanna use it... it'll probably pop right off.

Same here, but the piece that's missing is the one pointing downward, which doesn't have one of those clips.

What was that missing piece BTW??
That's a great question. I have no idea what the hell it does, other than keeping my fuel gauge working properly. The rubber piece at the bottom has a little slit in it, so it's obviously sucking up small amounts of fuel. Why, I have no idea.

Mine is using all the fuel, at a 1/4 tank which is the most I will run it to before I refill, I can fill up with 12 gallons of gas. I am also having the same problem with fuel gauge and the error message on the dash. I checked and everything looks like it is installed correctly.

I am dumbfounded what can be wrong and just read this whole thread without a defenitive answer. I use Shell 93 from the same gas station since I bought the car 4 years ago but it only started after the GT500 install about 8 months ago. It will drop to zero and after 10-20 minutes it will go back to where the fuel level is actually at.

For the record I only get about 7-9 mpg and have been since new motor and tune.

I had this issue as well. I had to use zip ties to keep it together . Edit: Didnt see the part that that is how it came to you.

Update: I went to my shop and they let me scavenge the piece I needed off a pump assembly they had laying around. Reinstalled, and boom, I have my gas gauge back. Thanks to everyone here for the diagnostic and general advice.

Kevin from Clevenger Ford called me today (thanks for the awesome customer service, Kevin) and speculated that my gas fumes might also be a by-product of the missing piece, since that's a pressure relief valve. I hope that's the case; I'll let you know tomorrow morning. I don't know what that fucking piece does, but it seems to be pretty important.

And then the UPS guy shows up with my Vortech Mondo bypass valve. What a day.

Thanks again,
