Wheel spacer specs

Not sure if this is tech or not, so feel free to move it mods.

I'm looking at making my own wheel spacers. I have access to a CNC mill, machine shop and SolidWorks, so all I really need are the specs for the spacer.

I've taken a few measurements on the wheel hub and so forth, and I think I know what dimensions would work for the spacer, but I was wondering if anyone here actually had the specifications for the fitment on the wheel hub. Like the tolerances and so forth.

Additionally the parallelism tolerances between the different sides of the spacer and possibly a concentric tolerance for the hub and lug concentricity.

id like to help but to be honest there are tons of places that will either sell you pre cut or custom size hubcentric adapters/spacers. why go through this mission when its readily available and relatively inexpensive

For something like that , I would buy, cause if you do it yourself and they are not perfect, you don't want your wheel to come off.

I agree with shark tales.
If I were you and was itching to make use of the cnc machine, I would pull apart an oil pump and spec out the gears, get a block of billet steel and go to work.

I suppose it's relative.

Eibach 1" spacers are like $160 a pair, and I need two pairs. $320 is a lot on a college budget.

The material for four spacers is like $50. Or free if I can find scrap that's big enough. Labor and tooling is free here on campus.

Additionally a custom made CNC spacer is going to be a heck of a lot better tolerance wise than any mass manufactured spacer. Better fit is always nice.

Did you not read my comment about $320 being more than I'd rather spend?

Of course I would rather get new wheels and tires with proper offset, but those don't come cheap.

Buy these, measure them, make 4 in the size you want.

I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure copying a $25 wheel spacer is the best idea... Maybe if I could get a hold of an eibach spacer, like on loan or something, that would work.

Just use the measurements you have and see if they work. If they don't turn out the way you want it's only going to cost you what you have in materials.

I may just go the truly custom fit route and use the old soot and sandpaper method for an exact fit.

There's a large difference between mass production and craft production.

I'm not trying to be nor want to be more "industrious" than these companies. They make profits, which I'm not interested in. They also make thousands or millions of copies. I just need four.

I don't want to make their products for less money than they do. My costs are completely different than theirs, and my product only has to fit my car, not every S197 ever made.

I simply place zero value on my spare time because otherwise I'm just going to screw around, and I believe that a machinist with over 30 years making precision components can make a better product than a $0.20/hour Chinese worker.

Also, I can't say what your experience is with designing and machining parts in college, but I have my name on over 800 unique parts used in thousands of automobiles, the S197 mustangs included.

I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, I know I have a ton to learn about this stuff, hence why I'm on here asking questions. I'm simply saying this isn't the first time I've done something like this.

I might take you up on that. I'm gonna do some checking with washers to see exactly how much spacing I need.

Good luck with this. I hope it works out for you. I want to space my wheels out too, but I can't bring myself to spend 200-300 on 4 chunks of aluminum and some wheel studs. The eBay stuff has me a little sketched out too.

So it looks like 7/8" may be too small. I spaced the wheels out an inch and they BARELY clear.

Also, are there any visual indications of the difference between hub centric wheels spacers and lug centric spacers? I thought the lip on the center of the spacer usually meant it was hub centric, right?
