Which midpipe should I get for my 05 Mustang GT?

Currently I have the SLP Loudmouth 1 axle-backs, which are super loud but recently I have wanted to make my car even louder. So, I have decided I want to get a mid pipe. What types of mid pipes are better, X or H? I am looking for something that would complement the SLP loudmouth nicely, making the car louder and possibly adding some horsepower. If possible, are there any mid pipes that do not require a tune? Also, are they any that could pass through emissions tests?

Thanks

depends on what sound you like.

raspy go with an o/r X

deep rumble go with an o/r prochamber

do some searching and you'll find different video's with sound clips to different setup's. or just go on youtube and search for them

You probably want to go with an offroad X. Cheaper than an o/r prochamber, but louder. Will sound good with SLPs, but o/r prochamber will sound "better" IMHO. X is raspier, prochamber lower more rumble at idle, but loud as $%^& when you get on it.

Midpipe will add around 6hp, or atleast that is what I saw on a before/after dyno on my car. Your results may vary, but don't expect a whole lot.

Mid is lighter, less weight FTW!

No mid pipe requires a tune (change in A/F, timing, etc) that I'm aware of, though you will need a tune to turn off your rear 02s or you will pop a check engine light, code will read that your cats aren't working. When I got my KB tune about 6 years ago, I told them to turn off the rear o2s in the tune though I didn't by an o/r mid for another 5 years. Should have done it sooner.

You won't pass the sniffer inspection without cats, unless you have a friend in the biz. Just keep the stock midpipe when you need an inspection, I can swap mine out in a 20 minutes with a lift.

X pipe is more raspy than H. H is more deep.
H gives more HP at lower rpm's. X gives more at upper. Its in the mid 5k rpm range that they usually switch and it's only by a few ponies.
A catted version shouldn't set off a MIL but I would recommend a new tune for either one because when you free up the exhaust you will loose back pressure and low end torque will drop. That is what happened to me.
With a non catted one you either have to get the rear O2s turned off(which depending on your state may not pass emissions) or buy non foulers and maybe steel wool and go about it that way. If your state is still living in the 80's and uses a sniffer I don't know what to tell you.
It will get much louder than stock.

I run LT's, O/R X, SLPs, and Hot Rods. I think it's sex and get compliments every time I drive.

Okay I have a few questions. Do offroad x pipes work with my stock headers and manifold? Also, are there any aftermarket mid pipes that do not need a tune to turn off the rear O2s? And, are there any aftermarket mid pipes that keep cats and pass the sniffer inspection?

I have JBA o/r x with the stock mufflers not too loud but sounds great at wot. My friends 01 cobra is slp lm1s with o/r x and it drowns bad at highway speeds and is annoying IMO but its all about what you like

From what I've seen you'll need a tine for any o/r mid pipe cause of the CEL.

Unless designed to fit with long tubes, then yes, they should bolt up to stock manifolds and shorty headers.

Aftermarked mid will need cats or mil eliminators not to turn off rear O2s, or live with the check engine light.

I don't know, I didn't want an aftermarket mid with cats. Reason I went with an offroad mid is to get rid of the cats. Cats have a tendency to stop up and pop motors of the forced induction variety. Plus the mid costs over double when you add cats to it.

Keep the stock cats, swap out when needed, save money on offroad pipe and be louder with more horsepower. Get some mil elimenators if you don't want to get a new tune.

What tune do you have now?

X will be the loudest, My wife and the cops could hear me a mile away. Switched to an H pipe didn't like the raspyness of it between 2 and 3K- RPM, which sucked on the highway.

Okay so to understand this correctly, aftermarket catted midpipes are not very trustworthy since the cats do not always pass inspection. Also, since offroad midpipes are louder and add more horsepower its better to get those. However, you said they will hook up to stock manifolds and shorty headers, so does that mean that with any offroad pipe i have to buy shorty headers as well? And the tune I have right now is just one for my JLT CAI. The only performance mods i have done to my car are the JLT CAI and the SLP Loudmouth 1 Axlebacks.

I do a lot of highway driving as well, so I should get an H. Which Offroad H do you have?

The Pypes Off-road H-pipe at cruise is just as loud as my catted UPR x-pipe I had. At WOT is like the four horseman of the Apocalypse coming and I love it. I like to do something about the trumpeting though because the Stingers are straight-through mufflers. With that said, highway cruise is the same with the off-road h-pipe as with the catted x-pipe I had. Passing RPM is different story though. Trust me on this, I just did this swap..........so the sounds at still fresh in my head.
