I have the ford racing tune and I have spark knock in all gears when you floor it. I have talked to ford racing and they haven't emailed me back or called. Is there any other place I can get a good tune other then going to get a dyno tune which cost $600 here in Oklahoma. Thanks :helpme:

Post up some more information. What year is the car? High Output kit? Where did you buy the Whipple kit?

One option is to contact Whipple and talk to them. I ended up sending my PCM to them and they flashed the new tune on it for me. They did this because the Ford Racing programmer was not ready at the time I bought my kit.

make sure its not engine noise either! these engines sound like they have spark knock once in a while stock, so add the stress of a blower on top of that

Its better to spend $600 on a dyno tune now rather than spending $6k on a new motor...

Amen ... However, don't think just because you're getting a dyno tune from "Joe Dyno Schmoe" that it's going to be good. There are a lot of hacks out there with dynos and software who think they've got an idea but they haven't a clue. So in the end it's about getting a reputable tuner to do the dyno tune. If not, get a mail order tune from a reputable tuner and than data log so they can make minor changes if needed.

The whipple HO is on a 05 mustang GT. I asked ford racing to send me a 91oct tune because I can't find 93oct anywhere here in town. I have contacted ford racing again and still no answer from them I guess I need to stay on top of them.

I was thinking about going with a bama tune but not sure if that will fix it. Did anyone else have this problem and go with another can tune from bama or someone else? thanks

Where about in Oklahoma? If you are close to Dallas, TX, we can get you fixed up here for a helluva lot less.

Just be sure you bring some jugs so you can mix 89 and 93 octane 50/50 to give you 91 octane, because they need to tune on that octane level of gas.

If you want mail order I am sure brenspeed or VMP could get you fixed up.

I agree with shawn13 check your plug gap first and make sure it isnt something simple.

Whipple tunes seem to be all over the place as I have seen many that run an AFR of 10.8 on the canned tune and I was at 11.5 AFR and many are imbetween.

If you want to make sure it is spark knock go find some 100 octane. You can find it in most big cities. Expensive but it shouldnt knock on that stuff, plus if it turns out to be knock you will be much safer driving it that way till you get it fixed.

Good Luck.

I changed the spark plugs out with the autolite HTO's and the knock is pretty much gone now the ford racing plugs all had a different gap when I pulled them out. Some still had the gap that came with the kit and some looked liked they wasn't even gapped at all and they all was gapped the same when I put them in.

It still has a small knock but nothing near what it had before. I just have to get it tuned now to make sure it runs safe. Thank you all for your help

I thought the Ford racing plugs were the same as the HT0s?

HPP in Lewisville (Dallas) can tune your car; they know what they're doing.
