Putting twin turbos in 2010 GT 5 speed, 4.6L with tune to about 650HP. Also upgraded drive train with 800 HP rated clutch, high perf rear, alum driveshaft, front and rear suspension, etc. I'm assuming the OEM tranny is going to be my weak link. Thoughts? Advice? Recommendations?

Going to depend on how you drive it.

if you're racing, power shifting, etc, it will not last, input shaft will be a weak link along with the gears

will last forever on any street tire

may not last on racier stuff.

will last a lot longer if you set up the proper master/slave/line and shim the slave as required.

That 10 spline input shaft is in danger of shearing, but then again depends how you drive the car and or race it. Go T56 magnum!

I have never seen an input shaft fail as long as I have been on this forum - 10, 15 years it must be.

"Let’s be honest, once that 10-spline input shaft broke in our factory transmission, it was extremely difficult for us to justify the cost of rebuilding that five-speed to handle what we plan on throwing at it."

it's a thing, mostly racers.

If you're officially out of $, I could see where you would stick with the 3650.

Otherwise, I can't imagine putting that much money into the car, only to leave the old transmission. Bottom line, it's not rated to that much HP, so your theoretical risk for failure will be high.

Ironically, I did the opposite order . . . my car is only at 450RWHP (still technically beyond the 3650), but I upgraded to the Magnum in preparation for serious power down the road.

all of those 10 spline failures are guys boggin' deep on drag slicks. That's not even a factory throwout bearing on the first photo, probably out of a rock crawler or something!

I beet the synchros out of my 3650 in less than 20,000 miles. Evan a MGW shifter will not make the transmission stronger and handle 6,500 rpm shifts for very long. Rather than mess with rebuilding the 3650 or screwing around with a m82 I went straight to the T56 Mag XL. This tranny will shift and it will be some time before I break it.

What else are you supposed to do on the track? slicks are for the track.
Also the syncrhos are a weak point when speed or powershifting. Some get lucky some don't.
I went through 2 tr3650's (one rebuild) before I went for the t56 magnum got tired of that shit.

You need a 6060 at the very least....that's if you plan to beat on it. If not, the 3650 will work for tooling around with street tires....but that would be no fun!

Building a twin turbo mustang and not taking it to the drag strip? Is that even legal?

It's just paralyzingly expensive to do a trans swap (usually,) esp. where I'm from, and I have the 3650 working sweet. I'm also designing a real shifter for it (will be a long time.)

I wrecked my 3650 with 525rwhp at WOT in second gear.
Changed to a 6060 and it's still going strong after 54,000 miles.

Sounds like it's only going to last as long as I behave. Well that ain't going to be too long. Well, I might have a have a chance to get by for a while. No drag slicks. MT staggered stickies. I'll start saving up for the big time! The question is - Do I do that first or get started on my '65 289 coupe restoration?

Hey Eighty6GT -
Do you have specs or part numbers for the proper master/slave/line you are talking about? We replaced the OEM line with braided steel when we did the clutch. New master and slave to, but pretty much OEM.
