So the last time I drove the car I got the error message 'low oil pressure.' I recall the first time this was on a 2-3 shift, and the second time it was in 2 and I was on the brake. I have an independent oil pressure gauge that read normal so the question is what could cause this to trip? It immediately reset but it has me worried if the cars trying to tell me something.

Mods: Heads, cams, stroker + supporting mods.

Coolant temp of 195, head temp of 215. The car has NO adverse effects when this happens minus the the info center chime, factory gauge going red, then everything clears out within 1-2 seconds.

The factory sensor is simply a switch, by the oil filter. Its wire runs to the SJB, then to the 'gauge' (a dummy of course).
If your independent pressure gauge is showing good pressure, that's good.

Since your pressure gauge is showing all is well, it may just be the OEM sensor. It's designed to trip the warning when the oil pressure is <5psi.

my sensor went out the other day. damn near poo'd my pants. I passed a few cars on the highway then slowed to take a side road. I lookded down and the gauge was red and reading "0". My heart dropped. Turned out to be a busted diaphram in the sensor. replaced the sensor. it's been running fine ever since. I would replace the sensor and see how it does after that.

I was reading through this thread. Thought at first it was gonna be bad. But sound like an electrical issue. Sensor or wiring. Also and I hope that fixes it. But in case it don't. It won't hurt to check crank endplay. But let's not talk about that.

Dito on replacing the pressure sensor. I've had to replace a few of them as well. The biggest thing is checking the pressure on a real gauge (you have that covered already).

Started the car again yesterday and got the same deal, sounds like I may have an exhaust leak somewhere as well. Since I'm about 100 miles from home I used my AAA and stuck it on a roll back to Memphis. Too much money in it to lose a motor over a hunch of what's wrong.

Bringing her back from the dead...You ever figure out what was wrong with her stroker??

Best I can figure it was the oil pressure sensor. Changed it, changed the oil, cut the filter and it was clean. Quite a peculiar incident but maybe this will help someone else out down the road!
