Keeps heat out of the engine bay and in the turbine housing to help spool. The metal itself doesnt get as hot so it will cool down faster as well, slows down fatigue and wear, and looks good! lol Dont have to worry bout it rusting/coroding either.

Kind of like cermic coating you can get on the tops of pistons, the pistons dont absorb as much heat so less wear and keeps more heat in the combustion chamber for a better burn and a little more power.

Earl, its a ceramic powder coating rated to 2000 degrees that David is going to be using.

I belive this is it.

Black Satin
p_satin4.jpg
Tolerant of high temperature exposure, Black Satin has been tested at temperatures over 2,000°Fwithout any lifting or cracking of the ceramic coating provided our TLHM (Race Coating) is applied to the inside of the pipes.. Black Satin does not hold potentially damaging heat around the part. Surface temperatures are actually reduced, lowering thermal fatigue in the part which in turn, extends the life of the exhaust piece. Temperatures under the hood are reduced which helps provide a cooler running engine part. A two-layer coating is available for the ultimate performance.

Im confused, i thought keeping the heat in the turbo was bad for the longevity of the turbo, and thats why you talked me out of using that turbo blanket, how is ceramic coating it any different? will the blanket lengthen the time to cool down?

A blanket holds heat on the outside of the turbine housing and keeps it out of the engine bay, so when you turn the car off it transfers the heat back into the turbine housing and center section which takes it alot longer to cool down. This heat when the car is off with no oil runing through the turbo to cool it is what effects the bearings/seals. Ceramic coating actual prevents the metal from getting as hot in the first place and keeps the heat inside the turbine.
(the heat is held in on the inside of the turbine housing so that heat energy helps spool and then comes out the exhaust vice being radiated into the engine bay to get caught by a blanket) so it cools faster and has less heat to absorb back into the center section when you shut down the car.

Agreed. After what I saw I'll be one of the slow cars! Damn eagle talon @ 34lbs of boost!! Whoa....

Yeah but it takes his car 30lbs of boost to make the power you make on 10lbs lol

Although im sure its light so if it can hook up it would move.

they are heavy, usually around 3300-3400lbs or so. Plus only a 2.0. If it is AWD, it will shit and get :) someone get a video of it for me please.

I do both on my setup. My turbos are Jet Hot coated and I run blankets on both of them. My setup is water cooled so the retained is not as big a problem and without the blankets the under hood temps are out of sight. Also the retained heat is not as big a problem with BB turbos as it is with journal bearings.

Yup. The water cooling helps alot for after the car is turned off as the water will continue to "flow" due to the heat siphoning effect and pull heat out of the turbos.

As for the underhood temps I have scene no difference vice when i had the blanket then removed it. May be more of an issue for you with 2 turbos and more piping in the engine bay.

I would have no issue running a blanket with a water and oil cooled turbo, but honestly doubt I will run a blanket again on this single turbo setup I have. The ceramic coating will be icing on the cake for me.

No turbo timer to help cool things down when it shuts off?

I am my own built in turbo timer lol, if your driving the car easy theres no need, but if you been on it hard its good to let it idle for 1-2 minutes before you shut it down. Or even better is after you have been getting on it drive easy for the last few minutes to your destination etc.

Well the turbo isn't going back in yet... But did get some stuff done today. First of all the battery was dead from sitting for 2 and ahalf weeks so i hooked up the tender. Fixed the oil pressure gauge(had a bad ground) installed the 2010 style tailights. Cleaned out the trunk and actually got one drag rim/tire to fit! lol
Then replaced the vac cap with the one Greg gave me, good thing too as the larger one I had on there was on its last leg and had tons of cracks in it.

Some pics.

LOL, nah this a no shit rubber cap from advanced autos, that was Luke thinking about getting the chair cap at home depot! Shit it probably would have worked.

Yeah I was on the fence about them but was ready to change up my lights, I really like them so far.

Hey I caught it on my first view. It just took me a while to view the thread as I dressed up as Stew from Hangover 2 for Halloween and did massive amounts of consumption on Friday and Saturday. I was only home for 45min on sat and then didn't get home yesterday till the afternoon.
