Afco Dual Pass H/E install on 06' GT

Will be buying an Afco 07'-10' GT500 dual pass heat exchanger w/dual 10" fans to upgrade from the Fluidyne one that came with my Whipple. I've seen on a few website that it will fit 05'-09' GT's as well. Who has bought & installed on a GT & what modifications need to be done? My shop will be installing & I want to have all the necessary parts they need to complete, ahead of install.

No Modifications at all had to be done.

I installed my afco on my 07 gt. I do not have the fans, but they are a simple install to a switch.

I had my pump mounted on the bumper support, but got a gt500 pump mount and used that. Much easier and didnt have any priming issues.

I do not have the part number for the bracket, I will look though.

Where did you get the GT500 mount? Do you have any pics you feel like sharing? 94tbird sent me some of his a while back but it never hurts to have more from different angles, etc.. Possibly installing one of these with the lightning pump this summer. TIA

no modifications needed...You can mount the pump anywhere. Also, are you going to run a separate tank and will it be in the trunk or under the hood? If your good and creative, you can make the pump fit anywhere.

I'm upgrading to a larger tank from Lethal Performance, more than twice the size & fits in same spot as small Whipple tank in engine bay.

When I had my smaller pump, I mounted it to the side of the frame and it was easy access to run the lines from the H/E, manifold, and tank

That h/e itself is an easy install. Gotta replace the bumper bolts to secure the mounting isolators too, so expect to remove the front facia.

I needed a 90 for the line....its about $3.

You can also buy 5/8" line prebent from any Autozone, etc. You may also need and additional straight barbed hose fitting but nothing any decent shop wouldn't have laying around. If you have a basic set of hand tools, I would recommend doing this yourself. If is very simple and if you have any problems priming the system, form a seal between the cap of the expansion tank and your mouth with your hands and blow. The pressure will force water into the pump and viola!

Not sure if you can see it, but here is my lightening pump mounted right to the Afco H/E using the supplied studs. I installed the kenne bell H/E in my gt500 and took that mounting bracket. Didnt need it there any way

EDIT:

Afco should have supplied you with a new hose all all the mounting hardware.

It is the high flow lightening pump. Same one that came with my kb.

Same one as that? The stock KB pump that came with my kit is inferior to that.

Yep. My kb came with a cobra/lightening pump. The older ones are inferior. They sent a new bracket for the new style also. If I were in your situation, I would get the pump/bracket assembly from toulsly and be some with it. So much easier than trying to mount the pump on the side. I tried that, it worked but was not fun.

Wow thanks I had no idea they changed the pump. Mine works ok but noowhere near the flow of the lightning.

With this bracket is the pump mounted higher up on the HE or lower? I've read it is best to keep the pump low.

It is mounted right on top. A pump can be placed anywhere , it isn't gravity fed. You do have to prime the system but then yoir good to go. Look at my pic. That is taken from the front of car , just above the bumper and behind the upper grill.

is there a reason why no one has suggested upgrading the I/C pump to the Meziere 20 GPM I/C pump? It is a great compliment to the Afco H/E.

Circulates more coolant through the H/E and helps dissipate the heat generated by the l/C.
