Problem after cam install.

So I installed my BBR stage 1 cams a few weeks ago and I've been having an issue ever since. At WOT the car runs fine. At light loads and low RPM (below 2k rpm) it bogs BAD. It feels like there is ZERO power. If I hold it WOT and it eventually makes it past 2k rpm, it takes off like normal. Today I was on the highway with cruise control on at like 1700 rpm and when I started going up a hill it started bogging. It doesn't throw any codes. Im thinking it has something to do with the phaser maybe? Like its not adjusting the cam angle like it should.

Also, if it starts bogging, and I get off the throttle, then get right back on the throttle, it goes away.

It doesn't always bog, only sometimes.

I've been messing with it for over a week checking everything I can with it. I can't find anything. Is there was way to test the phaser?

It runs fine at idle.

Help! Thanks!

Yes. Called them asked about it about it and they said that it has to be something mechanical. They said that all they really tune for with a cam install is idle.

They also said that if I load up my old tune from before the cam install and it still does the same thing, then that rules out it being a tune issue.

Who is them? First rule about tooners, they will always tell you to check something mechanical rather than looking at the tune...Mechanical issue means codes or bad things happening lol. The cam changes airflow, any dumbass can adjust their idle rpm with a handheld device.

IMHO this sounds like a cut and dry tune issue.

Its a Brenspeed tune. That's what I thought too, but they said that a tune issue would always be there. Not only sometimes.

Not true, operating temp, o2 sensor open or closed loop, load etc can all effect this.
I had a part throttle stumble/bog in my tune that was only there 75% of the time for the first 20-30 minutes of driving and then sometimes would go away completely and sometimes do it over and over. I also would go wot to get past it. Told my tuner about it, brought it in and he adjusted the tune and hasnt done it since.

Yeah thats what I figured. Maybe ill call them back. He asked who installed it and when I said I did, he automatically assumed that I screwed it up.

There something I can datalog to show what's going on in there?

Im sure there is, if they would have taken the time to look at your logs vice assume you that you fucked up the install, they might have seen it...if they knew what they were looking for... lol

Just called them back and they said they are going to look through the tune. They said something abouta how they can't really tune on a NSR cam. He said that the PCM treats it like a stock cam and that the mods I have (JLT CAI, delete plates, and this cam) are a perfect storm for this kind of issue. Said something about how the air "washes" the MAF. Sound right to anyone?

By perfect storm do they mean more mods on the car than they know how do deal with and they can no longer just take 5 minutes to throw some sct preloaded files together, up the idle rpm and make the car run ok? Well then yes I agree what a perfect storm! lol It takes some real tuning and knowing what your doing to tune a car like that to get good power and maintain drivability. This is what seperates good tuners from run of the mill ones. At least after being persistent they agreed to look at it. Good luck.

Wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion from another tuner either.

Lol i don't think the guy I talked to was the tuner. But he was a lot more helpful than the last guy I talked to. He at least seemed like he wanted to help. If they can't fix it im probably going to have to shell out the $$ for a Dyno tune aren't I?

Well thats good, I mean if you already paid them, see if they can make it right.
No, not necessarily a dyno tune, just find a better remote tuner, such as Lito etc.

That term is usually associated with a centri blower and why people go to blow through. Air backwashes over the maf fooling the ecu as to the amount of air going into the motor.

Keep in mind I'm not a tuner but I do tune my car. There is more to tune for than just idle. Do you have the cam card or specs for your cam? If so can you post them? You could rule out the phasers by datalogging CAM ANGLE [0] and CAM ANGLE [1]. What you would be looking for is that they both change positions at about the same times.

It's just a shot in the dark anyway but what I was looking for was the card that should of come with the cams. Besides the info on that label it would also list valve timing which is when the intake and exhaust valves open and close.

Cold air, delete plates, and cams are a perfect storm? LOL I must have a hurricane brewing under my hood then! You really need to drop your current tuner, save yourself time and headache, skip the bullshit and let Lito straighten your car out. He knows his shit. Don't let some tool tinker with your car til they really do damage.
