So I am starting my Shelby Kicker upgrade for my Mustang.

http://www.shelbystore.com/category-s/61.htm

Alot of it is plug and play, but there are parts that you will have to run some wires and do some cutting and soldering.

I will update this thread as I go.

So far I have the front doors complete and should be ordering the amp later this week.

Here are some pics of the front speakers OEM vs Kicker

Here it is installed in the door. This speaker is plug and play. It has the OEM connector on it for the harness.

Door subs are a bit different. You have to cut the OEM harness and use 2 of the four OEM wires. The OEM sub is a dual voicecoil which uses 4 wires. The Kicker uses only 2 of them.

So I started with this for the door subs.....

Here it is installed in the door panel. Fitment was spot on.

Here is the final look of the door panel when complete.

I don't recommend just replacing the subs, as the OEM amp will see half the ohm load and only put out half the wattage. So you WILL have to choose an amp for them.

I replaced the stock subs with the kicker ones also.

A little added info:
The stock sub is held in by a bolt in the back, don't try and gorilla it off. Remove bolt and sub is removed.

I plan to go with the separate amp route eventually.

So I ordered the Shelby Kicker amp this morning...and it is out of stock for a few days. Waiting on Champion Mustangs to get their shipment in.

So as it does, I will post pics.

I will be actually using the Shelby Kicker 4.1 amp.

I am 40 years old and to damn big to be climbing in the trunk building amp racks and such....20 years ago, it would have been a different story.

Nice write-up and pics Stephen. I've been eyeballing that Kicker system from Shelby for my 06 for quite some time.

Just too dam lazy to install it. 20 years ago my stang would have been all Rockford Fosgate with speakers everywhere. Memories of OCD and car audio lol!

Install will not be that bad. The amp looks to mount in the passenger foot well, and run some cables behind the radio.

The amp not only runs the door subs, but also all 4 of the 6x8's.

How does it sound with just the sub upgrade and not the amp?

Your only going to get half the bass as you are using only 2 of the four wires from the OEM sub.

UPDATE:

After talking to Champion Mustang, they had one amp left, but it was damaged and not sale able. The Shelby Kicker amp is on back order nationwide with no ETA when it will be available.

I have decided a different route that should be badass. Keep you guys posted.

Any updates? The only reason I haven't bought the Shelby kit is because the amp is more than I wanted to spend. Interested to see what you came up with.

I have actually been putting this together and then just found out that the Shelby/Kicker amp is now available. So I might just get the amp since it is plug and play.

Here is what I went with just not installed yet....

NVX JAD900.5 5 channel amp
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_40253_NVX-JAD900.5.html

Class D 5-Channel Amplifier with Bass Remote

RMS Power Rating:
  • 4 ohms: 70 watts x 4 chan. + 210 x 1 chan.
  • 2 ohms: 105 watts x 4 chan. + 380 x 1 chan.
  • Bridged, 4 ohms: 210 watts x 2 chan. + 380 x 1 chan. @ 2 ohms
Dimensions: 6-7/10"W x 12-8/10"L x 1-8/10"H

AudioControl LCQ1
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43565_AudioControl-LCQ-1-Gray.html?SearchClickout%5Bquery_id%5D=18717568&SearchClickout%5BIgnore%5D=1

this will turn the high output of the factory stereo in to low level and also give me an eq to fine tune with.

5 channel amp is going to be mounted under the dash on the passenger side.

I installed the Shelby/ Kicker upgrade in my 09 Bullitt. It's entirely plug and play. I just split the wire coating, and folded back and taped the extra wire for the door woofers against itself.

I've got the whole kit and it's definitely not a competition stereo, but sounds really good while looking totally stock. Sounds way better than the Shaker 1000. Worth every penny.
