Bruce, I had no trouble with mine. The two bolts under the diff housing were the only two the didnt line up perfectly. It wasnt hard to align them using a drift pin.

Good to know. It looks like I'm going with the che. Just waiting for a little cash flow, lol.

Bruce, I'll be putting on my CHE brace on in the next few weeks if time permits. I'll keep you posted if you don't have yours on before mine.

Now, with the brace, is welding the axle tubes still necessary? I don't know any good welders in my area that could do it right.

Likely not necessary, but I did both just in case, as I am not the best at launching at the track

After reading most of this and seeing the (rosette welds) on page 4 it seems that the gt500 axles don't twist. I am going to do this.
Does anyone have knowledge of a gt500 twisting the tubes??

When asked what was better, welding the tubes or the axle brace, got the following comment from the owner of CHE:

"If you are running high horsepower with slicks or drag radials, weld the tubes along with the axle brace to keep them from spinning out of the center section and the brace will minimize deflection of the tubes. Only welding the tubes without the brace will result in the axle tube ripping the chunk of the center section that its welded to right off with it if you have enough hp and traction."

LOL. No, but seriously, has anyone seen a Torsen diff bite the dust yet? I cant find one

I haven't seen one fail yet either. According to Torsen who I spoke to just a few days ago, the Torsen in the Boss and GT500 is 40% stronger than the T2R. It's an all new unit compared with the T2R, and "significantly stronger".

The GT500 rearends are no different than the GT rearends. Twisting axle tubes is quite rare. Welding them or pinning them is more than sufficient.

Yes, it's the same.

Several months back, I received a random call from someone, and was told that the rear-ends that come with the Torsen Diff, are specific, in that they are strengthened additionally in comparison to the standard 8.8 w/o the Torsen.

This call came from someone who stated that they had seen some of my "posts online" and he wanted to inform me of a few things....

He stated that this is a known issue (axle tubes twisting) on some of the higher powered cars, so they implemented to additional puddle welds as a prevention method.

He wouldn't go into much detail about himself, but he appeared to know more than anyone I have ever spoken with, about the process/manufacturing for the S197 rear-axle assembly.

I've got a '13 GT500 housing on order for a customer. Should be here Friday. I'll get some pics of it when it gets here so we can compare. It is a new part number.

Torsens in the bosses seem to burn out under drag racing.

The old T2, and the T2R are known to break when drag racing, but the Boss/GT500 Torsen is considerably stronger, and seems to be holding up to drag racing well. Have you seen failures? Links? Aside from the one dumbass kid on SVTP who broke his from wheel hop.

Considering Lethal has also broke axles, and countless other parts at the track, I wouldn't consider that failure to be widespread or problematic, or even a concern for others. They run their cars hard (not a bad thing).
