I thought IRS was heavier overall?

That was sarcasm for all the stick axle fans.

That said there is no reason a IRS can’t weigh less than a stick axle. Most people have it stuck in their heads that IRS weighs more because it did on the Terminators. But the Terminator IRS was designed around a stick axle chassis/as a bolt it. If done from scratch with aluminum arms (which the S550 has) there is no reason why the IRS needs to weigh as much as the stock axle. Plus there is no arguing a IRS has a LOT less unsprung weight than a stick axle does..

Lol you should start doing a (insert sarcasm don't here) before those things.

My understanding was that a stick axle would always weight less than even a dedicated IRS so long as both setups had the same reliability/power handling.

Then start a thread and argue about it there.

Whoooaaaa there. No need to be rude.

I'm just wondering if the new IRS will be lighter, as you said may be possible, if it will be as reliable and capable as far as power handling goes. I wouldn't think so, but that's just my opinion.

I know from reading your ridiculous "Twincharger" thread that unless I weigh a stick axle and a IRS in front of you and prove the IRS is as strong with a FEA analysis you will continue to argue, or "have opinions" (what you call it) until the end of time.

Like I said, if you want to argue IRS vs. stick axle start a thread. Don't ruin this one.

I wonder what kind of power the EcoBoost4 is going to be making. I think I need a DD that is somewhat fuel efficient and an EB4 Mustang is right up my alley me thinks.

I don't want to argue anything. I just wanna hear what you think about it.

This isn't my thread so I'm not going to try and sit here and try to get the technical breakdown that I would enjoy seeing. You're welcome to provide it but that's not what I'm expecting. I just wanna know what you think.

I've seen a dyno graph of a 2.0L EB4 with a CAI, downpipe and exhaust that made 350/350! Pretty crazy.

They should make 250-300 pretty easy

If all you wanted is to know what I think you could simply re-read my original post.

Now go troll somewhere else.:thumb2:

I'll quote for reference:

So my question is do you think the S550 IRS will weigh more or less than the S197 stick axle, and do you think it will be as reliable or as strong?

Your statement was just kind of a "well it's possible."

This is a redundant speculation thread at best. You guys should just relax in speculate til your hearts content.

Or better yet... someone posts something (like a question) and you don't like it, just ignore then post. Don't reply to it. It will just keep it going.

Call me a heretic, but I would kill for a AWD option. I could finally get rid of the 9-2x winter car and go Mustang year-round LOL
