Are the 13 gt500 oil pump billet geared ? Or just has billel back plate?

AFAIK just the back plate. The housing has "3V" cast into it. I compared the gears with those from a 3V and all of the parts looked identical with the exception of the aforementioned back plate and pressure spring.

On my motor I did all new timing components from freedomracing for $100. New head changing kit, main & side bolt kit, timing cover gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, water pump o ring, oil sensor plate gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, oil pump, rear main seal, oil slinger, front crank seal, crank bolt and washer, cam bolts, and all the head stuff I decided to change out. IMO its better to go ahead and replace stuff then to reuse and have to tear it all back apart to fix a leak.

You will need the freedom die tool for the followers and if you change valve springs

So, can I just swap the back plate on my pump? should be simple enough? And no dicking with the spring etc.

How vital is is to replace the lash adjusters?
What criteria do you use the evaluate them?
I've never worked with them before but I would suspect that they have a spring in them similar to a hydraulic lifter, is it wear on the spring inside them that is the concern?

I didn't change the lash adjusters. According to a 5.0 mustangs and fast fords article I read, they are the last things to wear on the heads and should last the lifetime of the vehicle bearing no disaster. I did change the followers. Seals, springs, retainers and valves (just because I got a deal on them).

I had the same thoughts but doubt crept into my mind after seeing a suggestion to replace them. I'm going to reuse my phasers as well since they are the latest ford ones and have 20,000 miles with stock cams and valvesprings. If they go, I will blame myself accordingly but I will eventually get over it and move on.

It would have the same effect as changing the spring on a gt500 pump. I think changing the spring is easier but to each their own.

I agree, you don't want to reuse an old pump who gears may have worn. Worn gears = low oil pressure. If you're going to buy the new pump, just swap the spring and you'll have brand new hardware.

Asked cause I have a mmr (yeah, I know.. the only mmr piece I have) pump with billet gears but don't trust it cause it is from mmr lol. I figure while it is all going to be out soon may as well go with the 13 back plate on it. Pump is low miles

I'm sure thats not a "MMR" pump, I bet all the shops use the same pump as they all share parts. LOL

OK, well that makes sense. I was pondering the same also. I have a SVT oil pump with billet gears from JDM (I'm sure its the same as MMRs) and I was wondering about swapping the back plate also.

But I decided against it.

You should be fine with billet gears or 2013 GT500 pump. Not sure you need both.

Jim that is how I did it. TSS pump with billet gears on the bottom and SVT Pump with Billet Backing Plate on the top:

SVT Billet Backing Plate on the left, and cast plate on the right:

TSS Gears:

Billet Backing Plate installed on the TSS Pump:
