So as I await patiently to have my motor built, I would like to gather parts that should be replaced while the engine is out.

I'm only doing a shortblock swap and all of my original parts will be transferred over including the heads, timing chain, and oil pan.

So I already know I'll need new gaskets for those and new head bolts (maybe go with Apr? )Anything else you recommend replacing? I'm currently at 45k miles on the current motor.

EDIT as of 2/7/14:

Thank you all for your inputs, Scott's build thread has been awesome in visualizing things as well. Just to note, my current car is a 2007 Mustang GT with the following mods:

- DOB Manifold w/ GT500 M122 Blower
- JLT 110mm Cold Air Intake
- GT500 Fuel pumps with FPDM with custom wiring harness courtesy of Crownaviation
- Fore -8an fuel line and filter
- JBA Ceramic coated long tube headers w/ Off-road H-pipe
- Tuned by Lito (this matters a lot!)

Currently being built by JDM Engineering is my 302 stroker motor with the following parts:

- Used Ford production aluminum block off a 06 GT
- Kellogg 3.8" Stroker Crank
- Saleen/Manley 5.85" Stroker Rods w/ ARP 2000 bolts
- 0.020" Manley Pistons with stock CR (not sure yet)
- Total seal piston rings
- Either Clevite or Kings Main & rod bearings

Here is a list of stuff I've gathered and plan on getting the following parts:

- ARP 2000 Series Head Stud Kit Part #256-4202
- Ford OEM Timing Chain Kit Part# M-6004-463V
- Ford OEM Dowels Part# F8AZ-6A008-AA
- Ford OEM Head gasket kit Part#4R3E-6051-BG
- Meziere 55GPM Water Pump Part# WP346S
- 2013 GT500 Oil Pan kit Part# M-6675-MSVT
- 2013 GT500 Oil Pump Part# ???

Wish List:

- SVE Aluminum radiator
- SVT Radiator fan Part# M-8C607-MSVT

Of course will be buying other misc. stuff such as breakin oil and etc.

Is there any other bolt or gasket that can't be reused or should be replaced?

all timing chain guides and hardware, if you can swing it you might as well do billet oil pump gears,

FRPP head changing kit is the cheapest way to buy head gaskets and it includes TTY head bolts. M-6067-3V46

You will need new cam phaser bolts as those are TTY as well. 3L3Z-6279-DA I would HIGHLY recommend buying the complete timing kit including new phasers, timing chains, guides, tensioners, etc. I bought the kit without phasers and ended up needing to buy a phaser which cost over $100 by itself.

Cylinder head dowels (to align the heads on the block) F8AZ-6A008-AA

We recommend changing the lash adjusters and oil pump(HV with extra capacity) when you tear these down at all. We usually do a complete timing kit as well as they are fairly reasonable cost wise now. ARP head studs and some Livernois/Cometic gaskets are a good plan if there is a power adder at the end of the road. The Ford head change kit is a alternative but you are getting another set of throw away fasteners. Its an opportunity to install one of our windage trays and an aftermarket oil pan if its in budget. If your taking the heads off why not some cams & limiters? Maybe CNC? Give us a call or send a PM we have this stuff in stock and ready to ship.

Goal is 600hp weekend/track car, currently has a gt500 blower on it. No cams or heads as it's a bit overkill for what I need.

I will be going with the gt500/frpp oil pump though.

So which is it? Are you doing a bare bones ultra cheap shortblock swap reusing even such basics as timing chains, or are you building a 600hp motor for long term use? In two posts you've contradicted yourself enough that I have no idea what to suggest. In order to stick to the budget of your first desired goal you would end up dismissing anything I would suggest to accomplish your second desired goal. I'm out until you figure out what you want.

Is this the kit you are referring too?

I was thinking of buying this kit to save time from removing the old chain and etc off my old block, but at 45k miles they need replacing?

Yes, that's the kit. And I replaced mine at 42K miles. You'll spend half that just for the gaskets, seals and tty bolts. Check with Steve for your best price.

I used Scott's build thread as a helpful resource when buying parts for my build. And based on BruceH's posts I bought the 2013 GT500 oil pump and 8.5 quart aluminum oil pan for my build. Both items were excellent values. Oil pan details are posted here.

The timing kit with phasers, bolts, guides, chains, and bolts is $250 from frpp. They also have a set of lash adjusters and rockers for $220.

This is one of the best deals out there. Also from FRPP. It's a 2013 GT500 oil pan, windage tray/crank scraper, and new pickup tube for under $170. It fits just fine in my 2008 and holds 8 quarts of oil.

All of those parts are available from our vendor Steve at Tasca or any FRPP dealer like 19COBRA93.

why upgrade the oil pan?

I did it because my Big Bore block came with 2v main caps and bolts. This means that I couldn't use my stock windage tray because the 3v studs weren't there to mount it on.

While searching for solutions the new gt500 combination windage tray, crank scraper, oil pan gasket came up. The only other solution was to change out the main cap bolts. The package deal is cheap at under $170.

It's not needed but I was under the impression that the op was looking at going with a different windage tray, etc. If he was then why not point him at the best deal out there?

It is a good deal would go well with the new oil pump. I was looking at the moroso oil pan on Scott's build thread but like this one better.
