I'll buy it for some peanuts. Seriously, will buy at a reduced price, and put a new motor in.

I'll know by monday which direction the car is going in. If it's a head replacement deal I may just fix it, if it's a bent rod or something to that degree I'll let you know. I may have to just part it out since it has a ton of mods that would bring in more cash as a part out IE a bunch of CF, H&R coil overs, suspension bits, built rear end, GT500 front end etc...etc...

This all started with a bad alternator, it runs fine then knocks after a few minutes. I wouldn't get so worked up and burning the house down yet. Really, Drain oil pull filter and look for any stripper glitter, if none check for ground shorts, reload tune, borrow a chain wedge and pull the valve cover, phaser and solenoid. If nothing pull cam bearing caps, if it was something that caused oil blockage like the sol. screen it will effect the first cap all others get oil through the cam towers.

Also look at the phasers to see if they look crooked, that spring assembly is delicate, if you have ever removed those phasers before they get damaged easily, the alignment pins can break and timing spokes can move. And for sure check your chain tension, if one of your tensioners broke and you have slack, your timing is effected. Have also seen a similar problem due to the pulse timing wheel on the crankshaft, keyway wallowed out on the pulse wheel.

If more serious go here, http://www.partshotlines.com buy a used motor for $1500.00 put it back to stock, think about fixing your other motor before you give up. If giving up you can pull all the go fast parts, make some money and sell the car with a running motor you will net better. Take money and running trade, buy a Coyote..

Keep your cool... Hope this works out for ya.

I have heard phaser in a 4.6 3v in a expedition sound that bad. Thought initially was a rod cause no way anything else could be that loud. Glad it was simple.. we replaced vct solenoids, chains, guides and tensioners while in there. 150k miles now and that was around 20k miles ago.

Check your oil... cut the filter if you can. If you lost a rod bearing you will find metal.

Vct screens have a habit of clogging up and limiting oil also. You would be surprised how little it takes to screw up those oil circuits

I am going to go out on a limb and say it is not a bad bearing here. Vct can cause all sorts of weird codes also

What this guy says! I would bet it is also VCT related. I have done tons of trucks with the same issue. Replace EVERYTHING on the front of the motor including the VCT solenoids. Problem solved!

My friend took a look today and indeed the phasers are shot :) So I ordered the FRPP cam timing kit and i'm on the hunt for a set of blower cams. Might as well upgrade while I'm in there :D Can't wait

I may be pulling my comp 127350 cams with around 3000 miles very soon. I am going to a bigger blower that will favor a set of custom grinds
